Syntes om Nice village and quiet campsite. Portaloo was clean but basic. Shower was cold even on a hot day.

Syntes om Right in the heart of Charbury and yet lovely and quiet. Basic site but ideal for what we wanted

Syntes om It's quiet as it is just a field, with a shower in the open air, some running water and a dixie. Easy to find and get in.

Syntes om campsite was within walking distance of local supermarket yet still quiet and rural setting
you were free to pitch up where you liked

Syntes ikke om unsupervised so campers rocked up at 1am and played music until 3 am
the mobile chemical toilet flushing mechanism was not working ( I will leave the reader to fill in the blanks there}
The solar powered shower was above the water tap in the open so you had to shower in the open in full view and while you were advised to bring a costume for this purpose showering with or without clothes is too intimate a proceedure to do in full view of everyone I have been on other campsites with solar powered showers but they had a screen.

Syntes om The view was lovely if you pitch your tent facing away from the houses.
Close to the village, walking distance to the shop.
Good directions how to find the field and information on local walks.
If you like a minimalist site this is for you, we found it amazing as it’s something we love.
Not many people there due to this which made it peaceful.

Syntes ikke om Just the houses that are right beside the field but if you look non of them really have windows on that side of the house so not a massive issue.

Syntes om Good location, easy to find, the owner was easily contactable and the campsite was quiet.

Syntes ikke om The listing says the campsite has a shower and whilst it does, the shower is in the middle of the camping field. It has no cover and no privacy so unless you bring a swimming costume/trunks it really wouldn’t be practical to shower here.

Syntes ikke om Unfortunately, it didn't feel like the site was as depicted and described on the website. What was missing from the website was the fact that one side of the field where you pitch your tent is lined with houses, so you feel overlooked (Luckily for us, the field was nearly empty when we arrived so we were able to find a spot farthest and facing away from the houses, so it wasn't too bad). Not really what I imagined when it was described on the website as "off-grid". It's in a town, next to a housing estate. From the site, we could hear the sound of traffic and occasionally the sirens of emergency vehicles.


Secondly, I'm not sure what the issue was but the water from the tap tasted strongly of some chemical and as such was undrinkable in our view - so we went to the local supermarket and bought 5l bottles of water to drink instead.

Finally, it should also be noted that the shower really is just a pipe with a shower head on it in the middle of the field, with no covering whatsoever - so can be seen by other campers and also can be seen from the surrounding houses. So bring a swimming costume or something to shower in if you're bothered by that kind of stuff.

Thank-you for your review and feedback - apologies you had an underwhelming experience.

Regarding the location, the description of off-grid is a literal reference to the simple facilities being non-electric etc. As a temporary 60-day pop-up site being as minimal as possible is important to us, apologies if this wasn’t what you were expecting.

Regarding the water, it is mains connected water but I will investigate best I can! Shower-wise, while I make sure to include photo online and description of it being outdoors we are looking to soon privacy screen it following feedback.

Location wise - our main draw is the fact we are in Charlbury, the central town location means foot access to facilities, pubs, transport etc and with the location being fully visible online along with description of this - town location would’ve been expected. I will look into amending description to ensure this is clearer - thank you!

The portaloo was okay but I really do think a second one is required as by Sunday you could tell it was rather full.

It says on the booking that there is an outside shower. We are used to outside showers but they usually offer a little privacy. A warning to others, it is a shower in the camping field which can been seen by other campers and houses. We made it work for the weekend but had we have known we would have been more prepared with swimwear.
