For among its many services is a shuttle bus running briskly in winter to the foot of the local ski area, where you can slope about, fall over or glide gracefully all the day long should you so wish.
If skiing leaves you cold, zip along for some sledding or ice karting from here too, and if you seek sunnier climes among the peaks there's horse riding to be had nearby, fishing in the Verdon river next to the site, and hiking for all levels (high up, mainly) around the 600 kilometres of the Mercantour National Park edging the site.
Les Cabanes du Martagon is a few minutes' stroll from Villars-Colmar, five minutes' drive from the tourist town of Colmars. It's a mighty pretty place to retreat to in between days on the slopes or hiking among the peaks, with spectacular mountain views, leafy green surrounds and loads of space for roaming, playing or eating alfresco.
Accommodation is in double-glazed pods, with heating and outdoor furniture included. A little dining table is in each, but you'll def want to make your way over to the swish site restaurant for as many regional specialities as poss: take a look at the site pics to decide well in advance what you might want – and to drool over the homemade desserts and cakes available to bear gleefully back to your wooden base.

Llocs d'interès
Colmars or Colmars-les-Alpes is a busy tourist town all year round with easy access to the many mountainous activities in the region. Drop into the tourist office for info on these and on Colmars: there's an interpretation trail (sur les traces du soldat Carlon) around the town's old and religious architecture, and treks to the Lance waterfall and into the Mercantour National Park round and about.
Elsewhere, get stuck into mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing from nearby Ratery, 15 minutes' drive away, go for skiing, luge sledding and horse riding in La Foux d'Allos, 25 minutes away, or tackle the Falaise de Meichira via ferrata climbing route within half an hour.
Less actively, take a drive to the spectacular mountain passes around the region, such as the Col d'Allos 40 minutes' drive away, sitting 2,250 metres up connecting Comars to Barcelonnette.
