You don't need to be a superhero to stay at splendidly eco-friendly Camping DéfiPlanet' in the Vienne, says its team; all you need is a hankering for saving the planet and preserving the natural environment. The site has a leisure park running activities and events for visitors to take part in during their stay or on a day entry. Covering 17 acres, it has a vast range of stuff to do for active or relaxed breaks, and a magic forest where pretend elves and leprechauns greet small adventurers. Grownups can boldly go where they haven't before and spend some time venturing gallantly into the heated pool complex, and then to the snack bar alongside for fuel... or get stuck into the loads of other outdoor options on site such as horse riding, high ropes, archery and miniature golf – some free and some available for a few extra coins. A good range of choices is around for eats of other sorts, including the 'plancha des farfadets' which includes platters of meat and fish to grill on a central barbecue table and an on-site restaurant called Chaudron du Farfadet (open every evening from Monday to Saturday). Barbecue packs, takeaways and breakfasts delivered right to your door are all available too.

No em va agradar If you want to be away from 2 coach-loads of teenagers, don’t choose pitch 5! Lots of shower doors banging for no reason. Also, pitch 5 was supposed to be superior but I’m not sure how it was different than any other pitch

Regarding pitch 5, it is one of our Premium pitches, which includes a private cabanon equipped with a fridge, two deckchairs, a parasol and a picnic table (features not included with our standard pitches). We're sorry if this was not clearly communicated or didn't meet your expectations.

Em va agradar Never got the chance, when we finally found the reception, we were met will 3 giggling young girls clearly ready to tell the middle aged English couple that they needed to provide a 400 euro deposit, by way of a check, to stay on the camp. When my wife pointed out that we were in our own camper, we were told that even though it wasn't normal policy, we would have to provide it to stay.
We left.

Em va agradar The toilet and shower blocks were very clean and the lagoon was beautiful. Nice friendly staff and tasty food.

No em va agradar Too many young children unsupervised banging the toilet and shower doors thinking it's funny and filling the toilets with toilet roll trying to flood them. The parents should be keeping control of their kids.

The superstar setting of Camping DéfiPlanet is a few minutes' drive or quick bike ride from Dienne, and about half an hour from Poitiers. As the second oldest university town in France (after Paris), Poitiers has a lively nightlife and a busy calendar of cultural activities and social events. It's a fine old town to potter around by day too, taking one of the three coloured circuits (red, yellow or blue) around famed sights like the baptistry, cathedral and church of Notre-Dame, the historic centre, and around the Parc de Blossac. Pick up info on all three trails at the Poitiers tourist office, next to the cathedral. Thrill-seekers and outdoorsy people can try climbing the treetop obstacle courses with routes for all abilities at FUN FOREST (35 minutes) or Aven'Thuré (55 minutes). For a futuristic experience instead, Futuroscope (35 minutes via the N147) has innovative attractions and immersive shows. For a combo of nature and adventure, make your way to Park "La Belle" (20 minutes) too, which has peaceful flower gardens and cabins. Fans of animals should also appreciate La Vallée Des Singes (40 minutes), a wildlife park where you can get up close and personal with primate species.
