Say oui to a dreamy hol at Guillerin Caravan and Glamping in the middle of Millevaches National Park… it’s set in the Correze department in the Limousin area, sharing a sublime location with ravishing rivers, hikable hilltops and shaded forests. Here for some walking and cycling? You'll have plenty of paths to ply in these awe-inspiring lands.
A swimming pool on site for post-adventure splashes will have you in good stead after working up a sweat on rural rambles. Walks seeking out mammals like otters and birds such as the short-toed snake eagle in the forested scenery can also be had if you care for something more gentle.
A stay at this park's all about rambling or resting in scenic surrounds, but there’s satisfying sightseeing to do within driving distance. Aubusson, a village known the world over for its 17th- and 18th-century tapestries, is half an hour away, while Meymac reachable in 35 minutes has a Romanesque church, turreted castle, 16th-century market hall and a fountain built from Volvic stones.
To ensure eats are available after all those explores, shop for produce and local delicacies at the well-stocked stalls of Felletin’s Friday market, a 25-minute drive away. To pick up French fare a little closer to home, drive for 10 minutes to the supermarket in Sornac, the nearest commune in this sparsely populated region.

For perhaps the most memorable vista in a region known for its memorable vistas, scale the highest section of the Millevaches plateau Mount Bessou half an hour away, to see the Auvergne mountains unfold from atop the tower that stands here.
Views down on lake level, meanwhile, can be had at Lac de Sèchemaille 35 minutes away, or travel further to Lac de la Triouzoune (50 minutes) for boating et al at its watersports centres. The Dordogne gorges are the same distance away for drives through soul-stirring scenery.
Seeking culture? Centre de Découverte du Moyen Age, again, a 50-minute drive, is an introduction to what the area was like in the Middle Ages; it has a medieval garden to wander round too.
To go further back into the past – while ticking off one of the region's best-known sightseeing spots – the Puy de Dôme volcano, which erupted 10,700 years ago, is an hour and 20 minutes by car.
