Sur Loire? Yes indeed – this Touraine site is right on the riverbank about five minutes’ drive from Langeais. It’s a fabulous location that’s got access to the Loire à Vélo cycle route for those who fancy a bit of activity and gorgeous views (especially at sunrise and sunset) for guests who’d prefer to stay put.
Stays at La Bateliere sur Loire are in unusual glamping accommodations that should make for a memorable stay – each one has been designed to help you make the most of these lovely surroundings while also providing plenty of comfort and character. They’re all self contained and well spaced around the site, so you’ll have your own private space and won’t be sharing facilities.
Much of what you need for a chilled-out break is in place here – each unit has a kitchen and bathroom as well as the bedroom(s) and living space. Bed linen and towels are provided to help you keep your packing list light, and there’s outdoor furniture for hours spent staring at the scenery.
When you’re not relaxing and admiring the views, you can be out and about checking out the many attractions of this area – there are heaps of châteaux and wineries around to visit, and you’ll be within an hour’s drive of family attractions like ZooParc de Beauval and Futuroscope. Closer to home, Langeais has a historic centre and plenty of choice when it comes to shops and places to eat.

If you’re not in the mood for cycling along the Loire à Vélo path, how about heading out on horseback? Touraine Cheval (15 minutes’ walk) has a range of options to choose from, including kids’ pony rides, beginner lessons, family outings and treks through the local vineyards for more experienced riders.
The wineries of the Loire Valley are pretty famous – and so are the châteaux, of course. From this site you’ll be able to visit several of them, starting at Château de Langeais (five minutes’ drive) and continuing on to Château de Villandry (10 minutes), Château d’Azay-le-Rideau (15 minutes) and Château d’Ussé (20 minutes), or all the way to Château de Chenonceau (40 minutes). Your history tour may also take you to Tours (25 minutes) to see the town’s attractive half-timbered houses.
If you’ve got the kids with you, it’s possible they may require a break from all the château visiting, so you may like to have alternative ideas up your sleeve – both ZooParc de Beauval and Futuroscope are about 55 minutes’ drive from the site, and either one makes a fine option for a family-friendly day out.
