Get to Aveyron, get to Auvergne, get to the Atlantic and get to Bordeaux with a well-placed stay at Camping Le Médoc Bleu in the Gironde department – and one mustn't forget the excellent and famed oysters of the nearby seaside town of Arcachon, or the Médoc region and its wine... Excellent beach and towering trees sorted here too: Camping Le Médoc Bleu is set between a pine forest and the sea, on the coast at the seaside resort of Carcans with its high dunes. It's about 50 kilometres from Bordeaux for sorting wine, art museums and tiptop UNESCO-listed architecture. Facilities include a big heated pool, two ping pong tables, a volleyball court, a pétanque court, bike hire, an arcade games room and a playground with bouncy castles. The snack bar has a roomy terrace and is open in July and August; bread and croissants are available for sale during the same period. Live entertainment, a kids' club and a teens' club are held during summer. Camping Le Médoc Bleu doesn't have a shop, but a market is held in nearby Carcans every Friday morning, and on Wednesday mornings at Carcans Maubuisson from mid-June to mid-September.

Carcans, Carcans-Maubuisson and the surrounding areas of Aveyron and Auvergne are well placed to get to from Camping Le Médoc Bleu, along with the beaches of Lacanau and Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans, the biggest freshwater lake in France and along with Lacanau a popular spot for watersports including sailing and kitesurfing. Golfing and horse riding are easily accessed in the area too. For topping photo opps, the tallest sand dune in Europe in the Dune of Pilat at the town of La Teste-de-Buch in Arcachon Bay, and the lighthouse of the Cap Ferret headland are both well-known local landmarks. Also potter around Bordeaux for a day, to snap shots of its UNESCO World Heritage Site architecture, over 360 historic monuments and the Esplanade des Quinconces, the biggest public square in Europe. Back around the coast, the 160+ kilometres of bike trails around the site should take you to most local popular spots – cycling to Bordeaux possibly not recommended...
