If you like your days lively – think beach hopping and vibrant bars – but prefer to set up base away from the action, the peaceful Camping Macacos d'Ajuda should do the trick.
A 10-minute drive from the village of Arraial d'Ajuda in Porto Seguro, this family-friendly site should be a hit with beach fans, with several sandy spots to tick off during your stay – the nearest is a measly 15-minute drive away, so it’s a doddle to get your ocean fix.
If you’d rather laze around at base, or you fancy some time off from the sand and sea, there are gardens and a swimming pool on site for relaxing times and refreshing dips. And you won’t need to up sticks for snacks either, as there’s a restaurant and bar to keep you fed and watered.
Foodwise, you’ll be well looked after here – grocery delivery is available on request for those days when you’d rather stay put, and barbecues are permitted if you’re keen to rustle up your own eats. Llocs d'interès
As you’d expect, it’s big on beaches around here, so you may as well make it a case of ‘different day, different beach’. Start with Mucugê beach (15 minutes' drive) and Taípe beach (20 minutes), then head further afield to Coqueiros beach (40 minutes) and Mirror beach (an hour). Energetic folk can head into the ocean to have a stab at some watersports, too.
More active water-based shenanigans can be had at Arraial Eco Parque (15 minutes); there’s more to this waterpark than just slides and pools, with extras like treetop trails, ziplining and a beach.
As well as the lively Mucugê Street, evenings can also be well spent on Ilha dos Aquários/Island of Aquariums (40 minutes). Reached by boat, this novel area of nightclubs and aquariums is kid-friendly in the early evening but kicks into full party mode after their bedtime.
For a couple of sights, pay a visit to the Epic Discovery Memorial (50 minutes), with a life-size replica of a Portuguese ship and a museum with exhibits on Brazilian history to see, as well as botanical gardens to wander; alternatively, amble around the Farol de Porto Seguro lighthouse (an hour).
