Bump your way down a country lane towards family-friendly Crug y Deri Farm for simple stays at a site hidden from the outside world. Park beside the farmhouse and then make your way to down to the sheltered and private field which you'll have all to yourself, with open skies overhead and oak trees all around. Once you’ve unpacked, have a walk around the wild woods beside this Pembrokeshire park – looking out for the buzzards and kites that fly overhead – or peek at the Preseli Hills (about a 25-minute drive north) from a path heading straight from the top of the site. The site's well placed too for days out: Narberth is 10 minutes' drive away and the beach at Amroth within 25. (If you want to warm up or make a cuppa before you set off, campfires are allowed, a single-ring gas cooker is provided and a well-equipped undercover camp kitchen is also to hand.) In keeping with the quiet and simple vibe of the site, facilities at the farm Crug y Deri Farm are kept basic: there's a well-kept compost toilet (in a stargazing setting) and a water tap for guests' use, plus a hot shower in an open-roof cubicle woven from hazel.

Llocs d'interès

While the area feels rural, it’s close to some of the bigger attractions in south west Wales – including Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (both 20 minutes’ drive). There’s also everything from fishing and foraging to wool mills and watersports available to try your hand at. After aquatic activities? Head down to Saundersfoot beach (half an hour) for rockpooling or seek surf at Freshwater West (45 minutes). The indoor pools and slides at Blue Lagoon Water Park take just over 15 minutes to reach while wild swims can be had at the old slate quarry in Rosebush, also about the same distance away. To take a dip and tour a town all in the same hour, the colourful seaside resort of Tenby is half an hour’s drive.
