Kingfisher Campsite

Em va agradar Beautiful setting, hardly anyone else camping( 3 other pitches). Secure gates at entrance.
Plenty of info about the campsite given to us on arrival. Liked hearing the whistle of the Bluebell railway steam train every now and again.

No em va agradar I found the gates quite tricky to manoeuvre, and heavy both entering and leaving the site.
The washing up sink in chiff chaff field wasn't connected to water or drains so the washing up had to be done in the toilet block which was not ideal.
There was some rubbish by the bins that appeared to have been just left there.there were recycling bins but no general waste bin. We took our rubbish home.

No em va agradar The noise from the kids disco, the man who was cutting the grass right next to the tents

Em va agradar The view and setting, the freedom to pitch anywhere. The proximity to local activities, such as paddle boarding.

Decent shower, with consistent hot water and pressure.

No em va agradar There was no designated washing up area, which meant we had to use the drinking water tap, which was cold. So we had to wash everything again when we got home.

There was only one shower. The toilets were often grubby, the loo roll was in limited supply and often ran out long before being replaced.

The scout leaders camping the neighbouring area were rude and accusatory, when we unintentionally tried to use the toilet designated to their group.

No em va agradar Toilets were dirty, rarely any loo roll but eventually did get cleaned but not until the morning. No washing up facilities other than in the toilets or next to the elsan tip.

Sturdy old school toilet & shower block.
Freedom to use bbq frame/fire pit.
The view and the steam train tooting through the trees in the distance leaving it's steam trailing above the trees.
6m min. between pitches and only 7 in the field I think at any time ...only 1 other party there when I was (on a friday night in July!) and they were on the other side so it was perfect!
No wifi... just how I like it!

No em va agradar Bit of a wordy notice about rules in the toilet but I think that was for group staff as it is also a kids activity centre.

Em va agradar Loved the open space and size of pitches. Was so peaceful and calm with so many great walks around the local area. Facilities were perfect, basic but had all that is needed for a camping trip.
Loved every minute and will be back again soon! Dogs had a great time too even in the heat! Staff were also really helpful! Loved the views looking across and spotting the train as it went past.

Em va agradar It is a well looked after field, half of it quite steep, other half is in level. Toilet block is basic but was always clean. There was a separate family shower room with toilet at the block, what was quite handy. The hot shower is heaven, and with the small shower panel/heather it can't run out, even there are many people! (3 toilets and one shower /♂️ ♀️ + 1 family bathroom)
The site is beside the road, but it isn't really disturbing, very light traffic. Public footpath is going through the field, so easy to start your walking from your tent, don't have to drive, if you don't want. Main reception is a bit further away(better to drive), but you can get assistance from the manager's mobile number, what you can find on site at many different places. No onsite lights, only at the toilet/shower block.

No em va agradar The gate of the field has a padlock and it was the responsibility of the people camping on the site to leave it open or keep it close. When we arrived I felt a bit anxious about anyone can come and go even by car without recognition, no safety cameras or anything like that. Everything was fine and the site was quite when we were there, but if you prefer higher level of security, maybe book to another part of their site...

Em va agradar Large site, not busy even on a bank holiday weekend, plenty of space, open fires, close to resivoir, secure site.lovely views lots of wildlife. Sounds of bluebell steam trains in background. Close to road but not a busy road. Resivoir nearby excellent for walks and wildlife.
A basic no frills proper camping site, just pitch where you think best in lovely countryside

No em va agradar The toilet/shower block is basic, which is fine with plenty of hot water, but needs a better standard of and more regular cleaning and toilet rolls refilled more often. Young staff in activity centre could be a bit more knowledgeable, but very friendly

Del gerent: Thanks for your review Mark, we're really pleased that you enjoyed your stay- the no frills traditional camping vibe is exactly our bread and butter! Totally take on board the regular cleaning and refilling of loo rolls- Kingfisher is new to us so we'll be sure to adjust this. The toilet block is also well overdue a refurb and that's next on our list. Hopefully see you soon :-)
