A west-facing site is a lovely thing, allowing you to spend the evening raising a glass (and/or a sausage from the barbecue) to the colourful sunset unfolding in front of you. The only thing that could make this picture even better? A sea view to go with your sunset… and that's exactly what you can expect at Rowanbank Caravan Park. This peaceful family-run park is on the Cumbria coast, five minutes’ drive south of Silloth and right next to a huge sandy beach that's a popular spot for fishing, dog walks and long coastal strolls. Dogs are, of course, welcome on site as well… You'll be just outside the Solway Coast National Landscape here, so there are plenty more walking options around there, or in the northern parts of the Lake District National Park, which is about half an hour's drive away. Add in a championship golf course, a go-kart track, a wildlife park and several historic sites nearby and you should have a location with something to suit most tastes when it comes to days out. This is a laidback and friendly site with simple facilities in the form of toilets, showers, a washing-up area, an Elsan point and a launderette. Bring a barbecue along and you'll be able to load it with supplies from the small supermarket in Silloth, which is also a handy place to find cafés and takeaways (fish and chips on the beach, anyone?)

Càmping tranquil i ben cuidat amb personal amable, especialment el gerent Bob. A prop d'una platja bonica i amb excel·lents rutes costaneres. Instal·lacions netes, tot i que alguns opinen que les dutxes necessiten modernització. Molts voldrien tornar per la pau i la proximitat al mar.

Em va agradar I went for some piece and quiet and a refresh after a hectic few months at work. That is precisely what I got. The owner was extremly helpful and the site was well maintained. I was camping on my own with the dog and I felt safe. The stars at night were magnificent. I have read reviews about the toilet block needing updating but I found them clean and pleasant. The shower was fantastic after a day on the beach. I will be back!

Em va agradar Great site, reception manager Bob is great, friendly and very helpful, nothing is a bother! Facilities are great and have everything you need. Beach 5mins walk straight over the road, we will be back!

Em va agradar It is a quiet site, with excellent facilities including hot showers and a laundrette. The site is kept beautifully and managed very well.
The view is incredible.
The manager Bob was incredibly kind and helpful; on hand if you need him and if not he gives you plenty of space to enjoy your stay.
The beach is right across the road with the coast path running through the dunes, beautiful wild flowers. I would definitely return.

Em va agradar Good welcome, quiet site and very clean facilities (showers were new this year). Great access to the beach, superb sunsets. Flat walk along the coastal path to Sillitoe.

No em va agradar No nearby shop for essentials or pub/ restaurant.

Em va agradar absolute wonderful camping site, i was surprised how clean and tidy the site was and also how clean the toilets and showers were. Bob was very helpful and hes a credit to the site. we walked around the site and noticed how much the regulars appreciated Bobs commitment to the grounds and the up keeping. we will be booking to go back

You’ll be able to walk straight out onto the beach from this site, and there are several other lovely coastal spots to check out nearby, including the five-mile stretch of sand at Allonby beach (10 minutes’ drive) and the chance to tee off with a sea view at Maryport Golf Club (15 minutes). If the weather isn’t on your side, perhaps try the likes of West Coast Indoor Karting (15 minutes) or the Lake District Coast Aquarium (20 minutes) instead. Fancy dipping into local history while you’re here? Check out Moorforge Viking Settlement (20 minutes), which holds workshops and events inspired by 10th-century life, or Senhouse Roman Museum (20 minutes), full of artefacts collected from the Roman fort next door. More recent history can be explored at National Trust - Wordsworth House and Garden (25 minutes), the poet’s childhood home, or with a wander around the castle, cathedral and Tullie House Museum in Carlisle (40 minutes). Keeping to the outdoor activities, there are heaps of walking trails in the Lake District National Park, plus family attractions like Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) and Go Ape Whinlatter (45 minutes).
