Northumberland is the UK's least densely populated county, so it’s a fine choice of destination for those seeking some peace, quiet and space to roam without crowds. And Kirk Field Banks, just outside the village of Ulgham, is an equally fine choice as a place to stay – this site is small, family-run and known for its peaceful atmosphere. There’s a good amount of space here, in fact, but guest numbers are always kept on the low side so that everyone has space to relax without feeling cramped. And that also means you’ll have scope to set up your gazebo, an awning, some camping chairs, a barbecue… essentially pretty much whatever you need to make yourselves feel comfortable. With trees all around for shade and shelter, there’s a nicely natural feeling here – and the owners have implemented a few rules to help preserve the peace for all guests.There’s nothing too rigorous, but large groups (especially hen/stag parties) won’t be accepted, and there’s a strict 10pm quiet time policy to allow everyone some well-earned rest. Kids and dogs are welcome here, with plenty of space to have a bit of a run about and designated dog walks running from the site. Simple facilities on site include showers, toilets and picnic tables along with chemical disposal for the tourers. Ulgham village is a tiny place so it doesn’t have a pub or shop, but it’s easy enough to drive or get a bus to Morpeth (10 minutes’ drive) when you need to sort supplies.

Acampada tranquil·la i cuidada amb parcel·les espaioses, propietària amable i servicial. Molts van gaudir de l'ambient silenciós i entorn natural, amb excel·lents passejades per gossos. Els lavabos són bàsics i limitats. Senyal de telèfon feble. L'entrada segura i tancada va ser un punt positiu.

Em va agradar Peaceful, well maintained, Chrissie, the warden, is great.
Has everything you need, pot wash, showers and toilets (yes, there aren't many and I suppose it can get busy when the site is full🤷🏼‍♀️ but there are portaloos as an option if you need them. I don't have onboard facilities but I do have a kampa khazi if I'm desperate).
Large pitches with hard standing and grass. I had electric but I ended up not using it for my one night as all my electronics were fully charged (my phone) and I have a power bank for emergencies.
Lovely dark skies for stargazing and this far North has regular visits from the Northern Lights.
Plenty of birds, I heard the hen pheasant coming in to land before I saw her 😁. And owls hooting from early evening. Robins, geese, rooks and jackdaws.
There is the road close by (that you have to drive on to reach the site) but it's not a motorway, the traffic noise isn't intrusive and it's small country road between Widdrington Station and Ulgham.
Ulgham is a pretty little village with a church, and Widdrington Station gas a Co-op and a chippy. Menus for Pegswood Tandoori at notice board.
I'm looking forward to coming back regularly as I live fairly local and sometimes I just need the peace and quiet.

No em va agradar Not a dislike but there were 20mph winds when I visited and they tend to funnel down the site, so chunky pegs and guy ropes a must if you're setting up a windbreak, awning or tent in windy weather. Wind did drop in the early evening and my van took the brunt of the wind.

The shower block was clean, the portaloo was the cleanest I've ever been in.

Em va agradar Lovely, peaceful site in a brilliant location for both the beaches and National Park of Northumberland. Chrissy, the warden, made us feel very welcome and was exceptionally helpful, warm and kind. The pitches are generously sized and well maintained. There are some very pleasant dog walks directly from the site, too. Facilities are a little basic, but are adequate for the size of the site and kept clean.

Em va agradar We loved our stay at this campsite, it's an absolute gem. Even though it's very spacious, the pitches were very large which meant the site wasn't busy at all and we had tons of room for our tent and car and extra room to spare.

It was lovely and quiet during our entire stay and the toilet and shower block was very clean. The site has strict quiet hours which we enjoyed as we like to enjoy the peace and quiet when camping and this site was perfect for exactly that.

The owner was so friendly and met us when we arrived and showed us our pitch and couldn't be more helpful!

The location is also perfect for exploring many sites in Northumberland with just a short drive, we were able to see Amble, Bamburgh Castle, and Alnwick while staying here!

We'll definitely be coming back next year! Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Em va agradar Quiet, countryside site with local shop & good pub restaurant nearby (5 min drive). Lots of beautiful wildlife. Site really well looked after by friendly on site staff. The toilet/shower block had one separate men/woman bathroom each with one shower & toilet. Bit basic but water was always hot and they were cleaned to a high standard daily. We had dark clear skies so stars were amazing. Good location for visiting Northumberland.

Fancy a stroll? Head out from the site for a wander along the banks of the River Lyne, or head to one of the nearby country parks – Druridge Bay Country Park (10 minutes’ drive) is a popular choice. And of course there are heaps of walks and bike rides to try out in the Northumberland National Park (half an hour). For a change of pace, golf and fishing are both within 10 minutes as well. Throw in a dash of heritage by taking your strolls around National Trust properties at Wallington Hall or Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens (both 35 minutes) or planning a trail taking in Hadrian’s Wall (40 minutes). Alnwick Castle (25 minutes) is another great choice, whether you’re there for the history or the Harry Potter connection. Family days out around here might take you to meet animals at Northumberland Zoo (10 minutes) and Whitehouse Farm Centre (25 minutes) or for a splash in the sea from Cresswell beach (10 minutes).
