Rods at the ready, folks – Wassell Grove Camping and Caravanning is rather more than a mere place to lay your head for the night… this 20-acre site also happens to be one of the West Midlands’ finer choices for a spot of fishing. Not one, not two but a generous three lakes await your bait here, with carp (often in excess of a hefty 10lb), bream and roach among the critters you may hook from the waters. Eager anglers should find plenty to keep them happy here, but there are also areas suitable for beginners… perhaps it’s time to start instructing the nippers in the fine art of fishing? And if you fancy staying here but have pretty much zero interest in fishing? That’s completely fine: non-rod-wielders are equally welcome to stay here and enjoy the peaceful woodland surrounds, perhaps using the place as a base for some lovely local hikes or family days out (Cadbury World and West Midland Safari Park, both less than half an hour away, would be good places to start on that front). Eats can be had throughout the day at the site’s own café (with both hot and cold dishes on the menu) or you can get the coals stoked on your barbecue; supermarkets are 10 minutes away in Stourbridge for supplies. Hagley, a few minutes’ drive from the site, has a couple of pubs for pints and meals out.

Em va agradar It was a clean site the lakes were beautiful we had a lovely walk round them. Views were nice from the campsite.

No em va agradar Was fully booked and it’s not pitches so we were literally parked on top of one another.
Unfortunately we had a tent of 6 teenagers behind us with no parent, I’m all for them having fun however being woken up throughout the night is not on. I tried to contact the staff on the number but no response. We asked them to be quiet at 2 and again at 3 am it spoilt our stay really. A member of staff did respond in the morning to say they didn’t see the message and they were not happy with the situation, which I appreciate however when u have poor health and are travelling round you do need some sleep. I have slept better at festivals.
If you have health issues the toilets and showers are a walk from the campsite and it’s a hill to walk back up.

Caseta (sense electricitat)

Em va agradar Stayed in the little blue cabin. It was spacious (3 of us!) and private. We were able to use the firepit & stove for cooking. Chairs & loungers were provided. The facilities (toilet/showers/cafe) were a 1 min walk from the cabins which was very convenient. They actually provided a few tea, hot chocs, marshmallows&coffees to use, some BBQ utensils and cups & torches/lights. Was above my expectations by far! Feeding the alpacas was adorable, you can get alpaca food in the cafe. The cafe food was delicious, staff were helpful and friendly. The scenery was so nice for walks. Would defo come back!

Em va agradar Site is very rural with quite a steep road to the fantastic fishing lakes stocked with some large fish. Here you find reception, toilet and showers all are well kept. The touring site is at the top of the hill which is grassed area has some gravel standings plus a few ehu points but no facilities other than drinking water. There are lots of lamas and ducks.

No em va agradar No toilet or washing facilities on the camping area these are at reception. The Elson point was extremely unpleasant and needs immediate attention imo.

Em va agradar Lovely animals surrounding the campsite. Nice lake, and a cafe which is handy. Toilets are also located at the cafe.

No em va agradar Toilets too far up a hill, not easy to walk. Uneven bumpy road not good for those with smaller cars like mine. Chemical disposal and bins also quite far had to go by car to use. Pipe on chemical disposal keeps coming off was very difficult to use.

Em va agradar Very clean inside the pod. Lovely walk around the fishing ponds and site. Great full English breakfast in the cafe. Julie and Paul our hosts always pleasant and helpful.

The friendly folk on site can point you towards the best places locally for a long walk or a short stroll: a perennial fave around these parts is the Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve – once you’ve seen it from ground level you can take a gander from on high by screaming along the ziplines at the Go Ape adventure park. If you like your outings to make you feel a bit clever, take in a bit of local history with visits to Hagley Hall (five minutes’ drive), the rock houses at Kinver Edge or the Black Country Living Museum (25 minutes). Each one aims to bring its own slice of history to life, so tour all three for an excellent insight into how people lived in the past. Learn about the natural world instead at the West Midland Safari Park (25 minutes away): there are walk-through and drive-through animal exhibits here, along with animatronic dinosaurs and theme park rides for when it’s time to take a break. Sweet-toothed guests also mustn’t miss out on a trip to the chocolate-themed extravaganza that is Cadbury World (25 minutes).
