  • Family-run RV park on the outskirts of the town of Ocala
  • Within 30 minutes' drive of Ocala National Forest and Silver Springs
  • Outdoor pool, billiards, clubhouse, wifi and country store
Steer your trusty steed in the direction of Wild Frontier RV Park and prepare for a welcome with a mighty dose of southern hospitality. Just off Highway 301 and four miles from Interstate 75, the park is family run and the owners aim to treat all guests like members of their extended family. This is a most excellent base if you’re in search of outdoor pursuits but with the convenient amenities of town life: the resort is on the outskirts of the town of Ocala, a few minutes’ drive or a short walk from fast food restaurants, a petrol station and a supermarket. A 10-minute drive will take you downtown for a wider range of eateries and bars, while half an hour or so in the other direction lie the open spaces, lakes and springs of the Ocala National Forest. Your options around the park include an outdoor pool for cooling swims, billiards and horseshoe to test your skills and competitive nature, and a central clubhouse with country store and a common room with wifi access. This is a pet-friendly park too, so aim to spend some time roaming around the grounds with your best pal if they're along for the ride. Toilets, showers, drinking water taps, a laundry room and essential RV services including gas sales and chemical disposal are also available in this central area. Please note that RVs or campervans over 10 years old are not accepted at the campground.

Local attractions

Open-air activities beckon for outdoorsy types at Ocala National Forest, half an hour from the resort. There are more than 600 lakes, springs and rivers around the forest, for kayaking, motorboating, swimming and fishing, as well as snorkelling or scuba diving in the clear waters of the Alexander Springs Recreation Area. More watery fun can be found at Silver Springs State Park, 20 minutes from the RV park: paddle your own canoe or kayak on the river or climb aboard a glass-bottomed boat to see the wildlife, vegetation and old Hollywood film props lurking below. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, hiking and guided horse treks are also available. If you’ve got a horsey type in tow, sign up for a farm visit with Farm Tours of Ocala – from their base 15 minutes away they’ll take you round some of the area’s working horse farms to meet jockeys and the professionals caring for the horses. Meanwhile, you can meet all sorts of animals at Petting Zoo Ocala, which is around 20 minutes away and has lots of friendly residents including emus, llamas, pigs and squirrel monkeys, plus ponies and camels to ride.
