  • Luxurious Upper Carniola holiday village exclusively for adults
  • A five-minute drive from Radovljica; 20 from the Austrian border
  • Wooden accommodation with Alpine views, hot tubs and breakfast baskets
When you're yearning to yodel and admire smashing mountain views, nothing quite beats an Alpine village. Nothing, that is, except Alp Glamping Village, an adults-only retreat in Slovenia's Upper Carniola region. If seclusion is high on your list of priorities, this site will tick many boxes: the wooden units here are nicely spread out, each coming with private decking and individual toilets and showers. Walkers setting out for uphill treks in nearby Triglav National Park – which has many quiet spots for scenic contemplation – can return to base and jump in one of Alp Glamping Village's hot tubs for a well-deserved rest. The accommodation here is made almost entirely out of spruce wood and is modelled on the hayracks that farming folk use to keep their forage dry (you'll likely see a good few examples of these as you drive through the surrounding countryside). The interior set-up is minimalistic but cosy, with a comfortable double bed and storage space for your holiday gear. Outside, meanwhile, you've full use of a spacious terrace – a place to chill, tuck into your daily breakfast basket and clink glasses of Slovenian wine. Alp Glamping Village is a five-minute drive from Radovljica, a town with practical amenities like food shops and a railway station plus pleasant, low-key entertainment like parks, restaurants and a beekeeping museum.

Local attractions

Set your satnav for Bled (15 minutes' drive) to visit one of Upper Carniola's picture-postcard faves. If you've ever run the word 'Slovenia' through a search engine, you'll probably already be familiar with this beauty of a town (y'know, the one on the edge of that blue-green lake with the island in the middle?). With ferry trips across the lake, an 11th-century castle and an excellent freshwater bathing spot to keep you amused, this one is an absolute must. Also close by, Brezje (10 minutes) has much to recommend itself: the Basilica of the Virgin Mary is well worth a visit, as are the waterfalls a short walk outside the town centre (the falls at Peračica (15 minutes) can easily be added onto to a trip here too). While the above spots are great destinations in their own right, they're easily combined with jaunts to the larger town of Kranj (20 minutes), where you can take culinary tours or pootle around the old city. If the fancy takes you, you can carry on with urban explores over the border in Austria in Villach (40 minutes) or Klagenfurt (an hour).
