  • Peaceful site near the Great Bačka Canal and EuroVelo 6 cycling route
  • A 10-minute drive to Sombor and 35 to the Croatian border
  • Sauna, garden, fitness room, swimming pool, wifi and shared kitchen
Balance out busy days, weeks and months with a break at Camping Sosul, in Serbia's West Bačka District well set up for getting guests a good dose of laidback times. It has ample amenities aimed at unwinding, like a manicured garden for sunbathing, a Finnish sauna for detoxing and a saltwater swimming pool for leisurely dips... The site may feel hidden away from the everyday but it’s just 10 minutes’ drive to the pretty city of Sombor and its supermarkets. It’s got enough amenities to keep you on base though – like a fully-equipped kitchen and a tennis court – but is also a top spot for touring Vojvodina. The Great Bačka Canal is a short stroll away if you fancy gliding on a kayak (perhaps towards a restaurant serving classic Serbian fare…?) or fishing and wild swimming. If you’d rather cycle, the EuroVelo 6 international trail is easy to access as well – rent a ride from the site to race on this route. The park’s got covered storage space for bicycles and motorcycles, and is completely fenced, illuminated and has CCTV. Smartphone and tablet charging plus wifi is also available to get your GPS ready for roams. For inspiration on where to go, the reception has guidebooks aplenty and is also a sweet spot for socialising, playing card games and reading when you’re not venturing into the countryside. Out front, a multifunctional terrace gives shade in the warm summer months and shelter from the rain when the weather’s wet. This site also has an outdoor playground for sunny days, an indoor fitness area, sanitary facilities with showers and a laundry room including washing and drying facilities. Pets are welcome as well.

Local attractions

Sombor’s got enough attractions to fill a few days, so amble into the centre and check out the early 19th-century Municipal Assembly Building, stroll down the pedestrianised Kralja Petra I street and catch a show at the stately National Theatre. It’s also home to Serbia’s biggest painting and has restaurants serving the area’s traditional fish pies. Kids complaining about the cultural expeditions? You could always promise them a trip to Petroland AquaPark about an hour and 15 minutes’ drive from the site... If strolling cities is more your thing, Belgrade’s about two hours and 20 minutes from this site and makes a logical next stop on a tour around the Balkans. Alternatively, the Croatian border is 35 minutes’ drive from Camping Sosul and Hungary is reachable in 50 minutes.
