Local attractions

If you’re staying out in the Namibian countryside, it’s a safe bet to imagine you’ll be hoping to spot a bit of wildlife. Have a chat with the friendly folk on site and they’ll help you set up game drives from Okapuka Lodge, half an hour away. Make sure your camera’s charged to the max as you set out to spot and snap giraffes, zebra, wildebeest and other wild critters. A 10-minute drive from the site leads to Von Bach Dam; built in 1968 on the Swakop river, it’s now an excellent spot for fishing, canoeing and hikes in the surrounding nature reserve. And how might you fancy shopping and a spa day Namibia-style? Take the five-minute stroll to Mbangura woodcarvers’ craft market to pick up souvenirs, then get in the car for the 20-minute drive to the Gross Barmen hot springs resort for a massage and a wallow in the mineral-rich thermal waters.
