  • Spectacular island setting on the wildlife haven of Inhaca
  • Boat trips, fishing, snorkelling and sunset cruises from the site
  • Seafood restaurant with many local specialities
A lush and peaceful place in spectacular Mozambique… you’d be mad to miss a holiday at Bemugi’s Place. On the edge of Maputo Bay in the Maputo Province, Bemugi’s is a place to settle down at for quite some time: it’s on subtropical and splendid Inhaca Island, a wildlife haven swathed in mangroves and home to hundreds of species of birds. Whales, dolphins and sea turtles can all be spotted in the surrounding waters; the site team can arrange boat trips, sea fishing trips, snorkelling adventures and sunset cruises too. Back at base, this Santa Maria Machangulo setting is a comfy and friendly one, cleaned every day and with private water and electricity points on each pitch. And it's a sociable one too – folks gather at the communal campfire area every night to natter and to down beers as the flames crackle. If your idea of island heaven includes cooking over coals, you'll be chuffed to note that all pitches have their own braai area. On the other hand, if you don't want to interrupt the idyll with such tasks as food prep, a seafood restaurant is right on site – wander over there and one of the other castaways will provide you with food for dining in or a takeaway.

Local attractions

Bemugi’s is a fab place for those who’d like to bask on the beach, and it’s equally excellent for folks who like a bit more activity on their island break. Have a word with the team on site and they’ll sort you with days of scuba diving, snorkelling, wakeboarding or tubing, wildlife-spotting boat trips or leisurely sunset cruises. Although Inhaca often calls itself an island, it’s actually more of a peninsula – and a handy result of that is that mainland outings are on the cards here too. Most handily, that means you can set forth in search of land-dwelling beasts easily enough: the Maputo Special Reserve is around an hour’s drive away, and the Maputo Elephant Reserve West Gate two hours. If you’re moving on, or seeking a snifter of urbanism to bring you back to real life, it’ll take you four hours or so to drive to Maputo for some great galleries and other cultural happenings. The fort and the fish market are top stops in the capital too.
