Local attractions

While this site’s mostly about revelling in rural life, art and culture are all around as well, including at the Lavatoio Comunale di Ulassai (20 minutes’ drive) where visitors can stroke chins while checking out at a collection of works by Sardinian-born Maria Lai. If you’d rather dive deep into the countryside, the Grotta Su Marmuri – one of the biggest cave systems in Europe (tours available) – and the Grotta Taquisara caves are both 25 minutes away. Want to whet appetites for swims at the beach? Head to the Cascata di Lequarci waterfalls (30 minutes) for the 50-metre-high cascades – they’re especially splendid after it’s been raining. Or, for a day trip to crystal clear waters with a dramatic backdrop, the shores of Cala Goloritzé are said to be some of the best in Sardinia and are hikeable from a car park about two hours’ drive away.
