  • Family-friendly mobile homes five minutes' walk from the Vendée coast
  • A 10-minute drive to Veillon beach, and an hour to Puy du Fou
  • Pool complex, games room, kids’ club, store and restaurant on site
Set above the rugged Vendée coastline and overlooking the sea, Campotel at Le Littoral is a family-friendly static caravan resort with plenty going on to keep everybody well entertained. Kids can happily explore the area’s rocky coves and the sandy beaches of Veillon (10 minutes’ drive) and Les Sables d’Olonne (25 minutes) – with a free shuttle service to both resorts during July and August. Family-orientated activities back on site include a heated aqua complex with waterslides and water buckets, plus indoor and outdoor pools. Round and about the site, you can knock a ball around on the multi-surface sports pitch, play table tennis and try your hand on the traditional pétanque piste. There are regular exercise classes too, and if you fancy playing games of golf, you can book a round on the championship 18-hole course at Bourgenay Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). What’s more, you can hire bikes for a small charge from reception and soon be out exploring the lovely Vendée countryside. Evenings with the family are taken care of with concerts, magic shows, themed nights and quizzes keeping your brain on tiptop form. Younger children can join in the fun at the kids’ club, while teens can slope off to challenge new-found friends to ping-pong competitions in the games room. Everything is very handy here food-wise, from the bar and restaurant (you’ll need to book the latter) to a takeaway service (only open in the afternoon). If you’d rather do the catering yourselves and eat on your private decking, there’s a mini market on site for stocking up on essentials.

Local attractions

As well as rockpooling on the nearest beach (five minutes’ walk), there's a sandy beach at Veillon (10 minutes’ drive) on the Côte de Lumière, where the kids can have a splash about. If you can prise them away from the sea, there are fabulous themed shows and bird-of-prey displays at Puy du Fou (well worth the hour’s drive), and pirate-themed treasure hunts at Le Château des Aventuriers (20 minutes). Closer to home, you can find sharks and manta rays in tanks at the Aquarium de Vendée (10 minutes’ walk), while energetic kids can run around on treetop trails at Le Grand Défi (half an hour’s drive). To sneak in some adults-only time, park the youngsters in the campsite’s kids’ club and head to the elegant beachside promenade at Les Sables d’Olonne (25 minutes) to sip coffee in alfresco cafés and dine on fresh seafood in seafront bistros.

Mercure 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Campsite is lovely, pools are great. A few overbearing pool rules such as no runners allowed around the pool, no food allowed also. You’ve to pay €5 a day for wifi , €100 cash only cleaning deposit fee on arrival. Good take away but expensive. Great shuttle bus to les sables dolonne beach each weekday.

Disliked: We had to pay a €100 cash cleaning deposit on arrival which we didn’t realise so had to leave the campsite to find an ATM as they only took cash! Also we had to clean the mobilehome and leave it as we found it which I felt was a bit unfair seeing as we paid so much to stay there. We also had to pay €5 a day for wifi access which wasn’t even that great after paying that!
