  • Secluded glampsite by a lake in gorgeous Brittany countryside
  • Half an hour’s drive from Rennes’ cathedral, museums and gardens
  • Beds with linen included; wetroom and barbecue area on site
Secluded, scenic and serene – does Barbret Lake have the ultimate combo for a foray to the countryside around Brittany’s Le Theil-de-Bretagne? See for yourself by staying at this glamping site’s sleek furnished accommodation – with little luxuries like the beds having bedding included. There’s also a barbecue area for gatherings around the grill, and plenty of places to sit and relish the peace and quiet of the surrounds. Not planning on cooking over coals? A breakfast, lunch and dinner menu is available for an extra charge and the market town of Retiers (25 minutes’ walk) has several restaurants and bars serving French food and drinks. If you plan on loading up at the supermarket and weekly Saturday market, or the bakeries, butchers, patisseries and wine merchant, it’s a few minutes away by car. Good news if you’re visiting Brittany in the hopes of exploring all its historic towns and cities – the stunning Rennes is half an hour’s drive from the park. When you’re after a quieter time, select a spot to hang out by the lake back on site or set off on strolls through the Brittany countryside, perhaps to the La Roche-aux-Fées Neolithic gallery grave (40 minutes’ walk).

Local attractions

Art aficionado? Linger at Le Château des Pères’ park stuffed with sculptural monuments (10 minutes’ drive) or roam around Rennes’ Musée des Beaux-Arts to see works by Botticelli, Rubens and Picasso. This city also has a stunning cathedral to admire and the planetarium in the Espace des Sciences is bound to amuse amateur astronauts. For a bit of outdoor time, stop and smell the roses at Parc du Thabor in the centre of Rennes or take the kids along to family-friendly Enigmaparc for the themed areas full of riddles, mazes and puzzles, from ancient Egyptian to the medieval period. Speaking of the Middle Ages, revert back to the current era with a trip to fairytale-like Château de Vitré (half an hour), built in the year 1000, and gaze at the views over the Vilaine river. Prime panoramas are also to be had at the walled city of Saint-Malo, which has a port, beaches, cathedral and an aquarium to explore too (an hour and a half). While you’re down by the seaside, dawdle over to Dinard (an hour and 20 minutes) for the Belle Époque villas and surrounding Côte d'Émeraude’s sandy stretches of coast, or mosey to Mont-Saint-Michel (an hour and a half) and see the stately home on this isle that’s only accessible by foot at low tide.
