  • Jungle site on a large eco park less than an hour's drive from Manaus
  • Excursions including kayak trips, waterfall walks and Amazon tours
  • Tree climbing, ziplining, archery and other activities on site
Amazonas state is wild country indeed – most of this part of Brazil is covered by tropical jungle, and leafy Ecoforest Adventure is no exception. This site, located in a huge nature park, is a wildlife haven that's properly out in the sticks. Its remote location is surprisingly convenient, though, making it possible to combine tropical explores with urban adventure (downtown Manaus is just under an hour's drive away). This spacious spot stretches over a whopping 65 hectares of forest (meaning guests can be sure of plenty of shade). Itching for wild swims? Ecoforest Adventure has direct access to clean river water, making it a fab choice for those looking for year-round freshwater dips. These green surrounds are the real deal: the jungle is so rich in wildlife that biodiversity experts often come along and give lectures here. It's certainly not all work at Ecoforest Adventure, though. Leisure options include a jungle trail, ziplines through the trees, a climbing wall, canoeing, archery and slacklining. Intrepid guests can also sort off-site excursions, which range from waterfall walks to Amazon tours and kayak trips along the river. The park's café serves up home-cooked meals, snacks and drinks to fuel these active adventures, and guests are also welcome to light up a campfire. Creature comforts include free wifi, a launderette and bathrooms with showers and baby changing.

Local attractions

The main attraction around here is, of course the jungle itself. That said, local attractions like Fun Park Via Norte (40 minutes' drive) certainly give Mother Earth a run for her money. The old-school rides and slides at this theme park may well appeal to younger travellers, as may the colourful beasts and birds on display at Bosque da Ciência zoo (55 minutes). There's no getting away from the fact that this is a pretty remote spot – that's part of the appeal of jungle hols, after all. That said, the speedy BR-174 highway makes it easier to get to Manaus and its many attractions than you might have thought. The city's well-kept botanical gardens come highly recommended (50 minutes), as does the Amazonian People’s Cultural Centre (one hour). For another interactive museum, head out to Seringal Vila Paraiso (an hour and a half), a colonial villa with rubber-tapping demonstrations. Fancy more natural explores? Ponta Negra beach, a popular alfresco bathing spot, is within easy reach (55 minutes), while spectacular waterfalls (the Natal, Asframa and Araras falls, to be precise) can all be accessed within about an hour and twenty minutes.
