  • Friendly holiday park on the outskirts of the rural town of Casino
  • Swimming pool, games room, function room and barbecue area
  • Within an hour's drive of Richmond Range and Broadwater National Park
Got some boots made for walking? There are heaps of place to let them fulfil their purpose in the surrounds of Casino Holiday Park, a five-minute drive from the centre of the rural Richmond Valley town of Casino. Settle in here and several of New South Wales’s national parks are within an hour’s drive – roam in the rainforest of the Richmond Range or stride out on the Broadwater National Park's Salty Lagoon Walk through salt marsh, swamp forest and ancient sand dunes. Fancy a beachy stroll? You’re about an hour’s drive from the coast. Wind down after all the walking back at base by taking a dip in the swimming pool, tackling the nine-hole golf course or getting to grips with the game of disc bowls. Or head indoors for some quieter time playing pool, grabbing a book from the library or piecing a pic together in the jigsaw puzzle room. There's also an off-leash area for doggy pals to scamper about in, and a camp kitchen with barbecues for that all-important open-air sausage sizzle.

Local attractions

Ease yourself gently into the walking with a stroll around Casino itself – the town’s self-guided Heritage Walk takes in several of its finest historic and art-deco buildings, tracing the story of how it became known as the Beef Capital. It’s also worth taking in the folk museum and taking a ride on the miniature railway (weekends only). And that’s not it for open-air activities locally: there’s a golf course five minutes’ drive away and some good fishing to be had in the Richmond river, which handily runs through the town centre. Roam along the riverbank for three kilometres or so and you’ll get to Platypus Pool, a fab place to spot one of nature’s most unlikely creatures. For more extensive hikes and bikes rides, there are hundreds of trails to pick from in the Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands (10 minutes’ drive), Mallanganee National Park (35 minutes), Broadwater National Park (40 minutes), Richmond Range National Park (an hour) and Bundjalung National Park (an hour and 10 minutes). If you need a beach to chill out on after all that activity, the 30 kilometres of sand an hour away at South Ballina should see you sorted for seaside strolls, drives, bike rides and surf spots.
