  • Pop-up site 20 minutes’ walk from Glastonbury Festival pedestrian gate
  • Shepton Mallet 10 minutes’ drive; Glastonbury Tor 20 minutes
  • Adults-only; within an arts venue; retro bus with USB charging points
With Lizzo, Måneskin and Yusuf (the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens) on the bill, Glastonbury 2023 promises to be a winner. If you’re looking for accommodation, consider Whitelake Park, within an arts venue on the outskirts of Worthy Farm and part of the festival infrastructure. This adults-only site is a great spot if you don’t have your own camping gear, for it comes with tipis and bell tents on a small paddock with views towards Pennard Hill. What you’ll get here is all the cool Glasto vibes – and none of the stress. Queuing for festival toilets before turning in for the night, anyone? No, thank you: in addition to composting toilets and a shower in the paddock itself, Whitelake Park has flushing toilets and a second shower within the arts venue. And since you’ll be sharing these facilities with only a small number of (discerning) fellow guests, your nightly routine won’t take… well, all night. The site is dotted with graffiti art and groovy installations ranging from palm trees made out of old tyres to huge mirror balls. A colourful vintage bus is equipped with USB charging points and power sockets, plus mirrors, so festival babes won’t have to worry about turning up at the Pyramid Stage looking less than fire. There’s a farm shop just across the A37, while the nearest supermarket is in Shepton Mallet (10 minutes’ drive). Chill in the hammock area or around the communal firepit until it’s time to see your favourite band. The nearest festival pedestrian access is at gate C (20 minutes’ walk), or you can catch the festival park-and-ride at the Bath & West Showground (five minutes’ drive).

Local attractions

Topped by St Michael’s Tower (all that’s left of a 14th-century church), Glastonbury Tor (20 minutes’ drive) has expansive views of the Somerset Levels, Dorset and Wiltshire. An important spiritual site, the hill is also a wildlife haven, and you might be able to spot kestrels, woodpeckers and rabbits. Bad weather and you fancy heading indoors? There are a couple of good museums within a 20-minute drive: the collection at Haynes Motor Museum ranges from vintage cars and motorbikes to Formula One cars, while the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum displays dozens of aircraft, including the first British Concorde. You’re between two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty here (Mendip Hills and Cranborne Chase), so there are plenty of hikes to be had before the music starts. Ebbor Gorge National Nature Reserve (25 minutes), in the Mendip Hills, is a woodland area carpeted with ferns, mosses and wild herbs.
