Liked: Friendly staff. Site clean and tidy, and pitches were a good size. Shower and toilet facilities always clean. Can't fault it at all, especially as we do not normally stay on such a large site. Plenty of places to visit, that is why we will be returning

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (medium)

Liked: Everyone on the site was very helpful, we had to swap to a larger pitch at last minute due to purchasing a new caravan that was slightly larger than our other one. Showers and toilets were regularly cleaned and the vending service was great to have. Loved the security for entering and leaving the site. Dog friendly and a fantastic dog walking field. We will definitely use this site again.

Local attractions

However long you stay here (at least a couple of weeks, preferably), there's enough to see and do around Dorset to entertain all ages and tastes. Ditch the car if you prefer: the local bus stop is 150 yards from the farm entrance, to pick up the Jurassic Coast route bus (X53) running from Exeter to Poole. The Portesham Dairy Farm team recommends a climb up to the Hardy Monument on Black Down (five minutes' drive) as a nifty way to see Dorset and its splendid coastline (the monument isn't to the writer Thomas Hardy as you might expect in these parts, but to Vice Admiral Thomas Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar; do be sure to tell that to the kids). You should be able to see the Devon coast, the Mendip Hills and the Isle of Wight from here on a clear day; just clamber the 120 steps up to the viewpoint. Also much recommended is Abbotsbury, home of the famed swannery as well as subtropical gardens and a kids' farm (also five minutes' drive), and the golden sands, sand sculptures and fair rides of Weymouth, 15 minutes from the farm. Portland (25 minutes) is also a must: visit the lighthouse, forage for fossils and come down the hill from the top of town for stunning views of the coast and Chesil Beach.
