  • Tarmac pitches behind an old hotel near the Devon and Somerset border
  • A 10-minute drive from the Blackdown Hills and 35 minutes to Exmouth
  • Rural location just off the A38 with walks in the nearby hills
Whether it’s walks in the hills, chilled-out times on the Exmouth coast or shopping and sightseeing in Exeter, relaxation of all sorts is easily sought out from 17th Century Hotel near the Devon and Somerset border. The rural location of this place is really quite spectacular, it’s clear to see… The tarmac hardstanding pitches here (all supplied with electricity) are at the back of an old hotel, just off the A38 and 10 minutes’ drive away from the edge of Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty, where gorgeous walks are easy to track down. While you’ll be 10 minutes' drive away from Wellington in Somerset, the address is a Devon postcode, meaning Devon or Somerset days out are both well within reach. From this site close to the North Devon bypass, head to Exeter and Taunton for a little buzz and lots of shopping or beeline for lovely walks in Devon, such as those in the hills close by. Taunton, the county town of Somerset, has great links to the A303, Stonehenge (an hour and 35 minutes’ drive in total) and other Somerset adventures. Otherwise, the Exmouth coastline, 35 minutes’ drive from the site, has a dose of fresh sea air and amusements when you want them. Whether you’re just passing through or staying for a while, you’ll have a well-maintained base in 17th Century Hotel, including a car park and charging facilities, with shops and restaurants 10 minutes’ drive away in Wellington.

Local attractions

If it’s sightseeing you’re after, then 17th Century Hotel is the right base for doing so… in the Blackdown Hills AONB, take the hike up to the Wellington Monument (10 minutes’ drive) for gorgeous views and peaceful surroundings. Or you may wish to go a little further out and hunt down Lyme Regis (50 minutes) on the Jurassic coast. Other peaceful spots in the Blackdown Hills include Culmstock Beacon (10 minutes) and Castle Neroche (25 minutes). However, with the Quantock Hills (40 minutes) and Exmoor National Park (half an hour) to the north, you may find yourself weighing up many options for a good, long pedal or a hike. In Exmouth (35 minutes), of course, a lot of the action comes in the form of the seaside and associated watersports, donkey rides and such amusements. Paddleboarding, canoeing and boating are a-go on the Grand Western Canal (10 minutes) too. To the south, kids are likely to love a day out at Crealy Theme Park & Resort (25 minutes). Combine it with a visit to cathedral city, Exeter (half an hour), and explore the quay, underground passages and museums perhaps.
