General

  • Close to the beaches of Perranporth and Crantock
  • Well-equipped playground, and campers' kitchen
  • Two-minute walk to a well-stocked shop and the local pub

Pretty much everything to tickle the fancy of families and couples on a Cornish hol is at Penrose Holiday Park a couple of miles from Perranporth. It's near some of Cornwall's most splendid beaches (Perranporth and Crantock are just two in the area) for sandy days out without packs of other people, and it's firmly kid-friendly with a toddler swing, swing, climbing frame, monkey bars, climbing wall, ping pong table and slide in its playground.

It's dog-friendly too, is five miles from Newquay for those who fancy some serious surf, and has free hot showers in blocks with hairdryers and shaving points, along with family rooms and a disabled wetroom.

The family team here has thought of extra little touches to tick most people's holiday boxes, like hand hygiene gel added to the chemical disposal point, the sink in the laundry area for washing out delicates (one of the washing machines puts in its own detergent too), and the campers' kitchen with fridge, microwave and the loan of ice blocks for its chest freezer. A dishwashing area is also to hand.

For supplies, the fresh and frozen food, tipples, tobacco and post office of Penrose's local shop is a two-minute walk away: bring foodie and drinkie bits back to have evening dins and sips around the site picnic table.

And – another item that might tickle your fancy on hol – just across from the shop is local pub the New Inn, serving up meals from a fairly extensive menu; a kids' play area is here too.

Great site with level pitches and bags of room. Friendly staff who even printed a bus timetable for us.
Fish and chips at the little cafe were excellent. The showers/toilets were immaculate and the camper's kitchen was very useful, especially for those in tents.
A short bus ride down to Perranporth with its wonderful beach ....
    We'll be back!

Very friendly staff. Great takeaway - even delivered your order to your pitch so you didn't have to wait there. Fish and chip Friday excellent. Very clean and well kept. Nothing was too much trouble. Booked in January and a good price for the pitch.

    Disliked:

Not many water taps - could only find one in our field and it was quite a way to carry heavy canisters. Only one chemical disposal point for the whole site. Only 4 ladies showers for the site but didn't end up being a problem. The pitches weren't very clearly marked - not sure if we encroached on the neighbouring pitch. None of these small points would deter us from returning to this campsite.
Paid for clubwifi but didn't work very well. 3 days out of 10 couldn't use it. Waste of money but nothing to do with the site.

Nice and tidy place, good facilities and a cafe.

    Disliked:

No sockets anywhere to charge phones, had to ask the cafe if I can plug my phone in to theirs. Although the pitch with electricity, without the adapter it is useless, no clear information on the website to bring one and no possibility to hire one on site. Next to the main road but not toonoisy.

Local attractions

Penrose Holiday Park is fably placed to reach pretty much anywhere in Cornwall within half an hour's drive, whether you fancy theme parks like The Flambards Experience or the Crealy Great Adventure Park, Cornwall's spectacular gardens, its historic houses and its heritage of tin and china clay mining. And of course there are many many beaches...

Within a few miles of Penrose Holiday Park are two small urban areas high up on the 'Cornwall is well gorgeous' list: the town of Perranporth two miles away, with three-mile long sandy beach and its surf, and the village of Crantock three miles away, with thatched cottages, another beaut beach and the Gannel estuary.

Busier – and yet more surfier – times are in Newquay five miles away, along with several surf schools and a cinema; for shopping, nightlife and a museum, theatre and cinema, take yourself to cathedraly Truro ten miles away.

If Cornish cantering is a holiday thing too, the riding stables a few miles from the site do treks for all levels of equine enthusiasts from beginners to experienced riders. Surfboard hire, lessons, paddleboard coaching and jetski hire are all easy to access in the area too and a karting circuit is nearby.
