  • Well-maintained friendly site on the edge of Bodmin Moor
  • A 25-minute drive to Cornwall's north coast; 35 mins to Eden Project
  • Easy access from the A30; pub 15 minutes' walk away
Leave the noise of modern life behind and replace it with the gentle hum of moorland life… relaxed Cornwall site Traveller’s Rest is just on the edge of Bodmin Moor, in a rural spot where you can really slow the pace of life for a little while. The setup here is one of proper countryside peace, with plenty of space, friendly farm animals in the adjacent fields and lovely views out over your moorland surroundings (and all the way to Dartmoor on a fine day). Settle down at this peaceful site and you’ll most likely get the idea that you’re entirely immersed in rural life – but in fact, this spot is also really rather well located for getting in, getting out and heading all over to see the sights. The A30 is just over a mile away from the site, making it a doddle to get out to the rest of Cornwall – including both the north and south coastlines. Launceston is about 15 minutes’ drive away for shops and other bits and bobs, and you can walk to the local pub in about 15 minutes. Facilities on site here have been well thought out, including toilets, showers, a washing machine and communal areas where you can find the team, use the shared fridge and freezer, or just pop in for a chat and a cuppa. Owner Andy grew up around these parts so is a handy person to natter to for local tips; he and his team are always happy to help if there’s something you need during your stay (well, within reason…)

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The location, beautifully kept, and amazingly firm grass field during a wet spell! But especially the kind considerate helpful owner. Thank you.

Disliked: Some difficult access to the site, though the main access was closed because of weather conditions.

Liked: Views.

Disliked: Wasn’t very organised, the pitches were very close together, the photos make it look bigger than it was! Only one shower, which could have been cleaner.

From the manager: Thanks for your review. I am considering doing marked out pitches for the future.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great little site tucked away in a little hamlet 5 minutes from the A30. Andy the owner was very welcoming and came round everyday to make sure everyone was OK. Facilities are basic but exactly what you want from a quiet getaway. This is an old fashioned site and I don't mean that in a bad way. There are no kids clubs or games room. Kids are left to their own imagination and free to roam the countryside playing Frisbee or hide n seek away from the destraction of modern life. That said the site does have very good free wifi. Which is usually chargeable at most big sites. The site is out in the sticks but the town of Launceston is about 10 miles away where you will find everything you need. Boscastle, Tintagel, wadebridge are all within 30min drive and padstow and Bude are just a little further. There are 2 local pubs within a 15-20 min walk should you want a beer after tea. Also the sky around this area is very dark and on a clear night the stars were amazing. Well worth taking an astronomy guide with you.

Liked: The peace being next to cows & sheep friendly farmer , back to basic camping but had a shower & toilet in farmers house.

Disliked: Porter toilets

From the manager: Sorry, the portable toilets were closed. The toilets were the wood clad concrete building and the one at the rear of the main property. Sorry if I did not explain on arrival. Andy

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Flat pitches with lots of individual space

Disliked: Facilities really filthy, only one shower between everyone, noisy campers until way after midnight and as it’s basically a campsite in someone’s back garden in needs a bit of respect for each other! This is the strangest campsite we have ever stayed at! You also had to pay a pound every time you shower which I’m not sure was mentioned anywhere!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry that some campers were noisy. Not sure about the back garden, it's part of a 3 acre field. Also sorry in the present economic climate with increases in electricity costs that you were unhappy about the £1 for a ten min shower. I have kept the price at that price despite increases in electricity charges Thanks for your review, I do my best to address all constructive comments.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We had to move campsite in a hurry and we got to Traveller's Rest early in the morning and the owner was very friendly, helpful and welcoming and allowed us to pitch our tent. The family loved the field and could run around in safety, the sheep and cows next door was a bonus! Location was good for both North and South coasts. The £1 for the shower goes a long way and it was very clean while we were there.

Disliked: Like other reviews, there is only one sink for washing up with only cold water in the open air and so it usually was full of leaves and slugs. It does need a shelter as a minimum and ideally hot water as on most sites. There is only one shower which could have been a problem if the site had been busy and the other toilets were not cleaned, so we didn't want our young children using them.
