Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: A really well laid out site with spacious pitches of all types, and a large green space in the middle for games etc. Toilets and showers are modern and well kept; the site is very well organised and looked after. I was welcomed there and fully informed on my arrival. There is an on-site farm shop and another at the farm nearby selling their own dairy and meat produce - for which I personally will return in future, wonderful, quality produce. Thoroughly recommended.

Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful and clean. Owner was very pleasant and the site even though it was busy was quiet during the night. Could not find the Elsa point but not urgent enough to contact the owner. Would stay again

Disliked: Shower not as powerful as I would like but perfectly functional.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: My wife myself and 2 grand-kids have just returned from Oakwood campsite, after a lovely stay over the May Bank holiday weekend. The site is spotlessly clean well maintained and well laid out in an oval shape. The pitches are large either grass or some hard standing, the only small issue we found was that they seemed quite close together. The site is very new and after speaking with Andrew they are still learning what does and doesn't work, but they seem to have got all the major points bang on. The shower/toilet block is first class if possibly a little small if the site is full but has great hot showers. We were met on arrival with a warm greeting from Lucy, she confirmed our pitch number and directed to it, literally just behind us. The little on site shop stocks most things you might have forgotten including fresh milk straight from the cows on the farm, as well has a freezer stocked with local produced meat . There is a large central grass area great for the kids and adults to play on. There is an Elsan point at one end of the site near the entrance with water points scattered around the site easily spotted in the huge upturned concrete pipes. Grey wast is disposed of in the bushes to feed the plants . There is a walk from the far corner of the site through the gate which leads down to the canal where you can walk up to Aqueduct Marina and enjoy food and drink in the cafe .There are 2 pubs within walking distance but we only visited the Badger Inn on our stay which is aprox 45-60min walk along country lanes , but is well worth a visit. Lucy and Andrew were fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble for Lucy, even getting their tractor to help someone who was stuck on their pitch, and Andrew was a great source of local. information which made our stay all the better. Hope to visit again soon.

Liked: The owners were very friendly and greated us on arrival and showed us to our pitch which was flat & spacious. They advised us of local walks and places to go. The toilets/shower block were very clean and tidy. We will definitely be using this place again

Local attractions

Head to the medieval town of Nantwich (15 minutes’ drive) to sample local produce in the indoor market (open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday); the site owners run a cheese stall there and offer a discount to their camping guests. You can also browse indie shops and antique dealers, admire higgledy-piggledy half-timbered houses or take strolls along the River Weaver Keep the kids happy with a visit to the elephants, big cats and rhinos at Chester Zoo, or learn more about rays and sharks at Blue Planet Aquarium (both 50 minutes). The bucket-list theme park Alton Towers (an hour and 10 minutes) has extreme rollercoasters as well as gentle rides for toddlers in CBeebies Land. Any rainy days can be taken care of in Crewe (15 minutes); simply head for the bowling alleys at Tenpin Crewe or catch a film at the neighbouring cinema. If you’re keen to maintain your fitness regime, you can swim lengths of the pool and train in the gym at Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
