  • Camping pods with a quiet, relaxing vibe two miles from Withernsea
  • A five-minute drive from Withernsea beach and 35 minutes from Hull
  • Private decking with a barbecue; access to an on-site coffee shop
Peaceful camping pods in a quiet village location? Tick. Two miles from the closest beach? That's right, and it might be the cherry on top. The camping pods at Hollym Leisure are in a quiet village with a setting well-suited to eves sizzling skewers on the barbecue on the decking. It’s only two miles from this cosy hideaway to the closest sandy beach in Withernsea. The traditional East Yorkshire seaside town has clean, golden sand, slot machines, bowling and a cinema – that’s likely to keep the kids entertained, along with local events and the open space back at base where kids are free to run about and concoct their own games. Of course, you might be wondering what tasty treats your stomach can expect while on your getaway. Handily, the local pub is just 10 minutes’ walk from Hollym Leisure and serves real ales and classic pub grub. For homemade cakes, meals and brews, there’s also an on-site coffee shack (expect a 10% discount for staying in a pod). For pickier bits and your general supplies, there are supermarkets in Withernsea and Patrington (five minutes’ drive). You’ll get a good dose of fresh air from your private terrace, but there’s more of that on leisurely countryside walks in the Hollym Carrs Nature Reserve half an hour’s walk away (or birdwatching and letting the kids run free around the forest). Toffling Hill Reserve, also within walking distance and midway between Hollym Carrs and the Ivy House, is yet another local wildlife haven. Back on site, nearby toilets and shower facilities will keep you feeling fresh and ready for further adventures out to Hull (35 minutes’ drive) and Beverley (55 minutes).

Local attractions

Hull (35 minutes’ drive or a 55-minute bus journey from the stop five minutes’ walk away) doesn’t hold back on entertainment for active types. There’s a rock climbing centre and a trampoline park, and when you’re sufficiently tired out, there are cinemas, an aquarium and a dino themed museum with fossils. That’s a little history for you. More can be tracked down in the underground Cold War bunkers at RAF Holmpton - Visit the Bunker (five minutes' drive), including a 120-metre underground passage and control room, and the local Withernsea Lighthouse Museum (10 minutes). What else for families? Beverley (55 minutes) has an adventure park, soft play, an inflatable arena and family events in the summer. Perhaps a speed boat or pirate ship from Bridlington’s buzzy seafront (an hour and five minutes)? Spurn Point (20 minutes) has heaps of wildlife, hence the option for guided three-hour safari tours.

1 bedroom camping pod (four person, hot tub)

Liked: We had an amazing time at the lodge. The location is perfect, not too far from shops and the beach. The pod itself was great, the beds were comfy and it was very clean. The hot tub, bbq and picnic area were a much-appreciated luxury and made our time at the pod. The owner was very friendly and gave us a great recommendation of where to go on our last day. Couldn’t fault it and would certainly want to come back!

Disliked: Nothing disliked, the only thing which would have been useful is a hose or some sort of running water for dishes.

Camping pod (two person)

Liked: Pod was clean and comfy. Hot tub was warm on arrival. They got us birthday banners at request. Breakfast hamper was lovely.

Disliked: On our first night in the pod our key snapped in the door as we were trying to get out and go to the loo. We had to climb out through the pod window and knock on the owners door to ask for help to get out of the pod as the key was lodged in the door. The owner was very rude to us and said it was something we had done by turning it the wrong way and it definitely wasn’t the locks because he had fitted them so they couldn’t be faulty. We were told we couldn’t have the spare key to lock the door so had to leave our belongings in an unlocked pod during our stay. We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome the rest of our stay. The toilet is a walk away from the pods and is a shared toilet for not only people in the pods but also for people at the garden centre just next to the site which we weren’t made aware of.

From the manager: Hi Thankyou for your review and I am sorry if you felt the owner was rude to you. Inside the pod folder is an emergency mobile number on the first page at the top. This could have been called to avoid climbing through the pod window. The owner came to your pod at midnight, with pliers, to open the door because you somehow snapped the brass key in the lock. It was explained that the master key was needed to get another copied. That’s all. The owner had this done in Hull. I appreciate it meant the door to be unlocked - he explained it is a safe area. We did not charge you for the replacement key. No one in the tearoom or garden centre knew what happened so I don’t understand how you feel you was made to feel unwelcome. The pods etc are cleaned thoroughly and double checked especially because of covid. If you found a cobweb, as an example, the pod is in the countryside so despite removing a cobweb it will appear again. Facilities/ child friendly/ activities: You did not visit with children. We only add to Facebook and Pitchup what we have - Countryside location Tearoom Garden centre 5 min drive to Withernsea Over the crossroads is a local pub We have never claimed to have anything we do not have. The owner returned to the pod as you were unable to lock the door with the new key. The owner explained you lift the handle. With regards to the loo, yes tearoom guests have the option to use. If you were to stay at a holiday park with several pods and a toilet block, several people would use the toilet facilities. Nor do we think it appropriate to have the toilet right next door to a pod. I am pleased you liked the hamper, banner and hot tub.

1 bedroom camping pod (four person, hot tub)

Liked: Hosts were very attentive. Pod very well equipped. Close proximity to the beach. Discount off hosts restaurant. Felt very safe.

Disliked: The hot tub wasn't ready on arrival. Had to share 1 toilet between all guests. Mattress on pull out bed very uncomfortable. No outdoor water tap.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello Thankyou for your review. Just to confirm, there is an outdoor water tap - apologies if it wasn’t show to you. We only have two pods available and we have not received any dislikes about the toilets facilities in the past. Sorry to hear you did not like your stay.

Lovely small site, very private and comfortable.
