  • Peaceful dog-friendly working farm site in the Shropshire Hills
  • A 10-minute drive from the Stiperstones; 25 minutes to Church Stretton
  • Pub serving local ales and meals nearby; Shropshire Way trail nearby
Heading to the Shropshire Hills for mountain hikes and wild reservoir swimming? Strap in for activities in the outdoors from Hollies Farm, a peaceful working farm site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with sublime countryside views. With the Carding Mill Valley 25 minutes’ drive away and the Long Mynd 20 minutes’ drive away, there are no shortages of hikes, some with fells, waterfalls and high summits (and The Stiperstones and the Shropshire Way both 10 minutes’ drive away for more hiking and mountain biking trails). Sip on local ales or tuck into a meal at a stone pub five minutes’ drive away (this is a 50-minute walk if you'd rather head out on foot). There’s another handy pub at the foot of the Stiperstones 20 minutes’ drive away, in case you need a refuel while out and more eateries within driving distance in Shropshire’s surrounding market towns. Don't worry too much about keeping supplies stocked up, as it’s a 20-minute drive to the nearest food shop. Or if you’d rather some fresh farm produce, there’s a farm shop 25 minutes’ drive away too. Perhaps grab some meat for the barbecue, as they’re permitted on site. Save the leftovers for your dog if you’ve brought one along, as they’re also welcome on the site.

Liked: My sister and I camped here for one night and picked a doozy! It absolutely hammered down and blew a gale all night, we ended up sleeping in the car eventually but despite the weather we couldn't have asked for more from the site. The field is very cosy and well placed if anything were to go wrong, which was important to us as two women camping in unfamiliar surroundings. The night was rough but the next morning the worst of it was over. There was no flooding, no boggy patches of mud, and in the sun the site and surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. The grass was freshly cut and there wasnt a scrap of litter anywhere. We lit a fire in a portable firepit to make breakfast and were glad to stretch our legs. There was a tap for spring water but we had brought our own so didnt need to use it. The sheep were bleating next door, the breeze was calm, and it was such a pleasant change from the busy traffic and fumes of city life. What a beautiful farm, obviously very well cared for. The animals were a lovely sight in the morning - sheep, cows, pheasants - all with babies, and we were never made to feel like we were in the way of the farm work. Even when we accidentally drove into the middle of a herd cows we were directed with a lot of smiles, patience and grace. We were particularly impressed with the farmer who we saw in a jeep, tractor, and then quad all within an hour, zipping around. She was absolutely lovely and a complete badass as well. She just made everything look so easy, and we couldn't believe she was a mum as well! Superwoman! Just another shining example of the salt of the earth, hard working people who live in the area. It would be crazy not to mention that the price we paid for a night here in the middle of August was an absolute bargain! Such a funny, memorable point in our trip, and so much more beautiful than it looks in photos, we would love to come back.

Disliked: The only downside I can think of is maybe that one of the toilets seemed to have been vandalised before we arrived and was out of order for the first half hour or so, but the owners had it well in hand and it wasnt an inconvenience. Some things are unavoidable unfortunately, no fault of the site at all.

Liked: A perfect campsite. Just a field, loos, and a water supply. But it's a field with a breathtaking view, and the sounds of nature. I woke up and spent a delightful hour just gazing out of the tent and listening to all the different bird calls. Sometimes, you want a bar, crowds, and company. This site offers the opposite. Go with the right expectations, and you'll love it. I should also mention the owner is friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Our favourite campsite so far!
