General

  • Quiet site on the riverbank in the grounds of a 17th-century house
  • Close to historic Sherwood Forest and 25 miles from Nottingham
  • Bar, TV room and traditional games

The Old Vicarage is a 17th-century house in a small village conveniently located just off the A1, six miles from Worksop and 25 miles from Nottingham. Pitches are located around the grounds, which run down to the banks of the Poulter.

There's plenty of space around the site for traditional outdoor activities, with a rope swing and stepping stones over the shallow river and a bridge that's perfect for playing Pooh Sticks. In the surrounding area there are animal parks and nature reserves to walk around, or you could follow one of the trails in historic Sherwood Forest.

Guest facilities on site centre around the Cave Bar, at the foot of an exposure of 500 million year old sandstone, and with a chillout room, TV room and games to play.

Other amenities include a washing-up area and bathrooms with showers, toilets and baby changing facilities.

Lovely chilled site, perfect for a relaxing visit. 04/06/2018

Really enjoyed the lovely layout of the site, a scenic camping area with the river running through the middle, both kids & adults enjoyed a dip/play in the water.
A relaxed atmosphere across the whole site, nothing is too much trouble and the whole chilled approach by the owners make this a perfect site if you like life simple.
Fire pit, barbecue, wood - all no trouble, delivered with no fuss.
Toilet block, although not luxury, functional and fit for purpose.
We were a mixed group (4 tents) - all chose their pitch and all were more than happy.
An added bonus was the visit from the ice cream man - lovely in that hot weather !
Highly recommended and we will return.

    Disliked:

An odd one - everybody using a car satnav was fine but anybody (us) using google maps on an iphone were sent some weird and wonderful locations on the DN22 8AS postcode, clearly not the end of the world and caused great hilarity within the group.

What a fantastic place. This is our 2nd visit this month. ***Ignore the ridiculous reviews....if you after a Butlins style break booking go there!!! ****
    Very clean site, well maintained.
It’s a peaceful setting, lots of families, and mix of groups and older couples.
The adhoc camping is perfect, lots of space to pitch anywhere on the grounds from non electrical to electric pitches.
The staff (family run) are amazing and work extremely hard. It’s set in a gorgeous setting with a small river (extremely clean) running through the grounds. All week kids & adults galore have been enjoying the weather/water & general relaxed atmosphere. If you want silence not for you.

Perhaps some of the reviews are because people whilst we here were caught stealing wood, entering fields they shouldn’t have gone in & generally being a nuisance. (Drunk behaviour) Sour grapes I think. (Ruth knows who you are !!) 👊🏻👊🏻

There’s no club on site....come to make your entertainment. From all we saw everyone loved the place. Very friendly and those making silly reviews it’s clearly not for you.

Thank you for making it yet another fab break for us all xxxxxx

    + Swing, zip wire

+ Warm shower (could be a bit temperamental but we all managed to get a wash!)
+ 15 mins from Sherwood Forest Visitor centre which is a good trip out

    Disliked:

+ Nothing, don't understand the negative reviews
+ Is very close to the A1 (didn't bother us, but wanted to mention incase you prefer being in the middle of nowhere!)

Absolutely beautiful setting. The river, trees and wildlife were idyllic camping scenery. The children loved paddling and playing in the water and on the rope swing. The owners were relaxed and easy going. The toilet facilities were good and everything was well sign posted. There were games and go-karts dotted around for the children to play with. I would definitely love to visit again.

    Disliked:

Near a main road. Some road noise at night but nothing that can’t be fixed with ear plugs!
