  • Small-scale Peak District farm site for adults only
  • Just off the A623, a mile from Litton; Tideswell five minutes' drive
  • Back to basics campsite with spectacular hill views
Monsal Trail cycling, Peak District pubs and green farm vistas… what a combination. Get stuck into the lot of them with a stay at Lane End Farm, a small-scale Buxton site a couple of miles from Tideswell village. This adults-only working farm is conveniently located just off the A623, a few hundred yards from historic Peter's Stone and the wildlife of Cressbrook Dale National Nature Reserve. Two pubs are within a mile: the Three Stags Heads Inn just off the main road and the Red Lion Inn, a short walk away in the village of Litton. In addition, there's Tideswell's wide range of cafés, fish and chip joints, takeaways and shops, all of which are a five-minute drive away. To top it off, there's a small supermarket here (handy to have if you're barbecuing). These surroundings are easy to get to grips with, as Lane End Farm has some truly excellent views over local Peak District terrain. As a rule, this is a hilly part of the world, making the scenery all the more interesting. That said, there are no abrupt slopes on site: just acres of flat green farm pastures for hassle-free pitching. At times you'll see spring lambs frolicking through the fields too. The facilities here are basic, but both toilets and showers are maintained to a high standard. Sometimes local produce is available to buy too – chat to site staff for details.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The site is absolutely gorgeous! Plenty of space but a cute square area. The facilities were perfect- a decent shower and toilet plus a porta loo, then plenty of space to wash up and recycle bin and dog poo bins(always handy)! Spoke to one of the guys that run it and he recommended the yonderman cafe which was beautiful, and throwbridge taps which do great food and pizza! Would 100% recommend to family and friends! Thanks for a great stay 😊

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Allocated pitches were well sized & a really good ‘toilet horse box’ with hot water / soap / toilet roll etc.

Disliked: Didn’t see the owners once….would’ve liked to buy some eggs as stated on the booking text but no signs to say where to go.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Bethany , thank you for choosing Lane End Farm. Im addressing your dislike comment, you arrived quite late and it does state that it’s an unmanned check in which is why you’ve received a text with your pitch number. You were only staying for 1 night if you had booked for more than the night I’m sure you would have seen us bobbing in and out topping the toilet rolls and checking the bins and wiping around. If you were desperate to buy eggs you could have text us , the one that gave you your pitch number. If you looked on your booking form I am sure there the house number there as well. You were booked in at LANE END FARM and the house that is on the t junction has sign that clearly states LANE END FARM you could have knocked or text or even rang … but you didn’t investigate it.

Nice site. Very basic but clean.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Small, quiet and simple. Shower/loo trailer. Send you pitch info in advance and you can just drive in and sort yourself out. Didn't mind that we were about 30 minutes later arriving because of this.

Disliked: My partner said he could smell the portaloo, I couldn't.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Brett. Thank you for choosing Lane End Farm. With your dislike comment and your partner being able to smell the porta loo , I find that I find that quite unbelievable especially you weren’t anywhere near it. It had been serviced Saturday am and it was unlikely to have a smell. You’re more likely to smell of cows in the field opposite. The 6/10 for facilities and activities is very harsh ! We are a BASIC CAMPSITE as stated on our blurb on Pitchup. The fact that you’re provided with a hot shower that you are not charged for and hot water for pot washing that is a plus. Some basic campsites only have a porta loo and you have to take your rubbish home with you. As for activities, that’s up to you to research and if you had a look in the binder in the shower trailer then you would be more informed. Most people come for the walking and the quiet plus the great pub in the village. !!

Great facilities, friendly owner. Great views and easy access to local attractions.…

Local attractions

This site is about three miles from Miller's Dale (10 minutes' drive), a small village on the river Wye where you can pick up the Monsal Trail towards Bakewell or Buxton. There's a well-maintained National Park-run parking spot here, plus an abseiling centre if you still have energy for adventure after covering all that ground. And if you haven't? A cosy waterside pub a few yards away will see to that. The mighty halls and gorgeous grounds of Chatsworth House (15 minutes) are also conveniently close to base, making this campsite a good choice if you haven't finished touring the estate and want to head back for round two. There's also Lyme Park (30 minutes), an excellent National Trust-managed property that starred as Pemberley in the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice. Thrill-seeking guests won't want to pass up the opportunity of visiting the top-rated rides at Alton Towers (50 minutes), while those who have a head for heights but prefer to take things at a slower pace will find suitably high-altitude entertainment at Go Ape Buxton (20 minutes).
