  • Luxury Derbyshire bell-tent glamping site with Chatsworth Estate views
  • In Peak District National Park; Chatsworth House five minutes’ drive
  • Farm shop, café serving breakfast and a foodie pub five minutes’ walk
Set on a hillside overlooking the spectacular Chatsworth Estate, Chatsworth Glamping at Broomhill Wood is a private hamlet of luxury bell tents, providing a peaceful location for summer glamping staycations with friends or family, the kids – and the dogs get to come too. Each beautifully furnished bell tent provides everything you need for a hassle-free getaway, including comfy “proper” beds, outdoor furniture, electricity, a barbecue, firepit and a fridge to keep your favourite tipple chilled. Decorated in neutral tones with natural furnishings, the bell tents allow you to be at one with the outdoors in style and comfort. All you’ll need to bring is clothes and some food – every other detail has been taken care of on site, right down to hairdryers to keep you looking your best. Peaceful this spot may be, but all the amenities you might need are nearby. The camping field is within walking distance of Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop (barely five minutes’ stroll), where you can buy logs and charcoal at a discount to fire up the barbecue, and meat to grill on it. And as an added bonus, yummy Full English breakfasts and other hot dishes are available between 9am and 5pm daily. Your stay also entitles you to a discount off food at The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley (five minutes’ walk), The Devonshire Arms at Beeley and The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow (both five minutes’ drive), all located on the estate. Spend your days exploring everything the estate has to offer (it’s a lot) or head off into the Peak District for cycle rides and moorland walks. And on clear evenings, there’s nothing better than cosying up around the firepit, a chilled glass of wine in hand, and watching the sun set over the valley.

Local attractions

It’s probably first stop Chatsworth House (five minutes’ drive) to snoop around all the priceless antiques and art treasures on display in sumptuous rooms. Afterwards, take a breather in the gorgeous parkland, laid out by Capability Brown in 1760 and home to sculptures and spectacular views. If you’d like to knock another stately pile off your list, fortified and medieval Haddon Hall (20 minutes) has Tudor-era apartments and rare-breed cows grazing in its parkland. At Matlock Bath (20 minutes), hire boats to row down the Derwent river, or take the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham (25 minutes) for spectacular Peak District views. Many cycling and walking routes criss-cross the area, including the child-friendly (flat and short) Tissington and Monsal trails. Talking of the kids, take them to feed ducks on the Wye river at Bakewell (10 minutes), or let them loose on the log flumes and pirate-boat ride at Gulliver’s Kingdom (25 minutes). Alton Towers (50 minutes) is another big-hitter theme park, with thrill-inducing rollercoasters and river-rapids rides.
