Camping Le Domaine du Bois Coquet is close to the village of La Douze in the Perigord. Around 25 minutes drive from the beautiful and bustling town of Périgueux. The campsite itself is nestled away in a beautiful and peaceful rural location surrounded by mature and well established forests full of native tree species.
The campsite itself is split in to three areas. Closest to the bar / restaurant, shop, primary toilet block and swimming pool are the lower numbered pitches. These are well shaded and divided by well maintained hedges although not as roomy as the higher numbered pitches. Falling away down the hill - the hill . . . - towards the animal sanctuary are the houses and safari tents and then at the very bottom of the site are the higher numbered pitches. We were pitch 11. It was roomy, well shaded and nestled deep under the bows of the trees. Not perfectly level but adequate. Well lit paths during the hours of darkness. Some housework required to remove the foliage from the floor.
The facilities are magnificent. The pool. Beautifully designed with a large terrace and steps for ease of entry all the way around the pool. This means wherever you are on the terrace you can easily get in to and out of the water. The restaurant / bar, food and shop are great and a real credit to the team. Wonderful food, regular entertainment it really felt like a communal space and the heart of the campsite. A well stocked - and free to use - selection of indoor and outdoor games supplemented by courts to use them on.
The team made the stay. Open, friendly and attentive. Everything you read above really represent the people who make it happen. The site is a real credit to their hard work and vision. Chapeaux.

The location is quite beautiful, right on top of the cliffs and beaches of the Mine d’Or.
Within 10 minutes drive - 20 minute pedal - of the site is the wonderful village of Penestin. A large Carrefour and a good range of independent shops and eateries on the high street. Penestin also has a bustling market on a Sunday morning (0800 - 1300) and during high season, an additional market on a Wednesday morning. NB - Whilst the village has a number of pleasant eateries, booking ahead - they get busy - would be advised.
The newly opened pool is a real gem. Around 10 metres in length and gently sloping it is supplemented by a number of features that are more than enough to keep the younger ones - and older ones - entertained. A lazy river, waterfall, whirlpool and jacuzzi. Alongside this there are areas both inside and outside to relax.
Generally flat, roomy and well shaded pitches although you may be required to work around the roots.

3. The swimming facilities
The toilet blocks were 'informally' divided between an adults only block alongside a dedicated family block. The facilities themselves are great, plenty of room, clean, plenty of hot water. However, during the evenings, the adult block in particular became difficult to negotiate. The issue being the way the facility was used by the clientele.
The onsite bar / restaurant was just not up to scratch for the size of the campsite. Extremely limited food choices. Unusual opening times. Austere seating area. Not the kind of place you could decide to go for a meal on the spur of the moment which is exactly what it should be for. Alongside this, whilst you can get food in the village, there is a death of takeaway options unless you're really in to pizza and want to eat before 2000 . . .
The functions supporting the swimming pool aren't yet adequate. There isn't enough of a terrace to relax and be by the pool if you're young ones are still going for it. There aren't adequate toilet facilities. There aren't showers to use before entering the pool.
