--Brush up on survival and bushcraft skills--
-Holidays in Devon and Cornwall-
As Bear Gryll ventures into his latest series, Mission Survive, outdoor accommodation specialist Pitchup.com reveals its top sites for back-to-nature, adrenalin-fuelled holidays, which can teach visitors many handy bushcraft and survival skills.
Enjoy an unforgettable adventure for the whole family at Old Mine House. This beautiful campsite in a wildflower meadow within Dartmoor National Park gives a truly back-to-basics camping experience. The site offers a forest school with sessions for bushcraft, canoeing, tree climbing, yoga, massage, reflexology, martial arts, drumming and kickboxing (extra charges apply). Site facilities include a shower, a flushable toilet and a compost toilet. Accommodation ranges from non-electric camping pitches for guests who want to get back to nature or for guests who can’t take the all-out Bear Grylls experience, there is a log cabin and a bell tent to rent. Guests who don’t fancy cooking over the campfire can also have the luxury of cooked meals provided on request for an additional charge. Pitchup.com offers accommodation here from just £10 per night for two adults.
Coastal Valley Camping and Crafts is in a fantastic rural location where guests can enjoy the site stream and the amazing Cornish countryside. The site offers the chance to learn many unusual and very useful skills, for example weaving, bushcraft, silk painting and woodworking among others. There are also many opportunities for foraging berries as well as nature trails for wily wildlife watchers to spot rabbits, the occasional deer and the resident stoat. The site offers pitches for tents, tourers and motorhomes costing from as little as £15 per night but also has a spacious furnished camping pod where a four-night stay will cost £260.
Wild Camping in Cornwall is everything it says in the name! The site offers wild camping for tents in a woodland field with sinks, woodburning showers and composting toilet facilities available to enable a more comfortable stay. The site enjoys a peaceful location set among the trees for a private and relaxing stay. There is a vast array of activities to try out including bushcraft, upcycling crafts, beading workshops, green woodworking, traditional archery, herbalism, paper making, and wild food walks. There’s something for everyone to try and enough variety to keep the whole family occupied. Activities are subject to extra charges and are designed to be environmentally sensitive and fun. Pitchup.com offers tent pitches here from just £19 per night for two adults.
