Set 10 minutes’ walk from the gorgeous Mediterranean beach at Benicàssim on the Costa Blanca, Camping Gran Avenida is a time-honoured and family-run site where much thought has gone into making life easy for guests – 50 years of thought in fact – and it shows as the place welcomes many return guests. What makes it special? On-site facilities for families include a seasonal outdoor pool, sports courts with artificial turf and a playground for the youngest guests. There’s a spacious barbecue area with communal grills, and a snack bar selling decent coffee and local wines as well as ice cream and simple meals. Practical amenities like spotless shower blocks, a laundry room and dishwashing area make life easy for everybody, and the fully serviced gravel pitches are partially shaded from the heat of the summer sun. A supermarket and several bars are within walking distance of the site, and there are restaurants and tapas bars in the centre of Benicàssim. The palm-backed beach has spectacular views to the protected Columbretes Islands nature reserve, and there are several other soft, sandy beaches within 20 minutes’ drive. Buses stop right outside the site entrance, and the railway station is 20 minutes’ away by bus for eco-friendly souls travelling on public transport.

喜欢 Great location to explore. Walking distance down to the resort center and a supermarket close by.
We ate in the bar / restaurant once - food was very well priced and enjoyable.
Showers were very clean and powerful.

不喜欢 Pitch sizes are quite small. Very tight to drive a large camper/ motorhome around the site. No seating area around pool and not allowed to sit in outside bar area in swimwear.

喜欢 Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced, popular restaurant. Facilities a bit tired but kept very clean. The camp had a pleasant happy atmosphere.

不喜欢 Obviously this is beyond their control but the road adjacent to the camp is constantly noisy.

You can easily spend a day on the slides and artificial surfing beach at Aquarama waterpark (five minutes’ drive). Lifeguarded Benicàssim Beach (10 minutes’ walk/five minutes’ drive) will probably be your next stop for leisurely swims in gentle waves, tapas bars backing the sand and coastline walks. The rugged Desert de les Palmes (20 minutes’ drive) provides slightly more arduous hiking and mountain biking. If you prefer higher-octane adventures, head right up into the hills to discover castle remains like Torre Albarrana (two hour’s walk), or snap yourself standing on the precipitous Trampolí del Diable rock slab (an hour and 40 minutes). Music fans, get the timing of your stay right at Camping Gran Avenida and you can attend lively festivals like Benicàssim Blues (early June) and Rototom Sunsplash (reggae, August). No matter when you visit, Castelló de la Plana (15 minutes’ drive) awaits your exploration; this handsome city is something of a local secret – have a nose around its butter-coloured cathedral and bell tower or the ornate modernist-era mansions in Plaza de la Independencia on a day’s recce.
