Your search is over, for Camping Rural La Cabañuela is set close to the quiet, rural village of Freila (five minutes’ drive, known for the ruins of its Moorish fortress) and half an hour’s drive from the Sierra de Baza Natural Park in the untamed Altiplano highlands of Granada. What else makes this campsite stand out above the rest? Well, quite a lot actually. There’s great cooking in La Cabañuela Restaurant and a terrace bar that opens all year round, from where you can keep an eye on your kids frolicking in the outdoor pool during high season. Secondly, it’s about a five-minute walk from a pretty artificial beach on the Negratín Reservoir, where you can fish, swim, kayak, paddleboard and generally keep active. At sunset, retreat to waterside restaurants and enjoy your pick of local dishes. Looking for yet more? Set in the Granada Geopark between the Sierra Cazorla and Sierra de Baza mountains, the site makes an excellent base for all sorts of outdoor activities (cycling, hiking, four-wheel-drive tours, hang gliding, and hot air balloon flights, for example.) The ancient remains of Arabic baths and two necropolises are found in Baza (20 minutes), and the town of Guadix (45 minutes) is famed for its cave houses and 16th-century cathedral.

喜欢 Me encantó el concepto rural. La amabilidad de las mujeres de recepción, su disposición para compartir lugares con encanto, su interés porque la estancia fuera lo más agradable posible.
Baños siempre limpios, instalaciones impolutas, chequeos del agua de la piscina todos los días.

不喜欢 Vecinos importunando por la noche, a quienes tuvimos que pedir silencio en varias ocasiones. Sorprendentemente, durante el día hablaban castellano, cuando les pedías silencio sólo entendían inglés. El poco respeto para con las instalaciones y la naturaleza de algunos viajeros. Tuvimos que limpiar en dos ocasiones los fregaderos que habían dejado llenos de comida.
Pagaría encantada algo más si hubiera alguien por la noche haciendo respetar normas evidentes.

喜欢 the countryside is stunning. The site office for booking etc was very helpfull, pointing out places of interest. Thermal springs etc.

不喜欢 The only complaint is that the restaurant does not take credit or debit cards. The nearby town however has a plethora of fine eating options

喜欢 Es un sitio impresionante. El camping de por si ya tiene todo lo necesario (piscina, cafetería, bar y restaurante...) pero la ubicación es increíble pues está justo al lado de un embalse precioso. Encima puedes alquilar kayaks en el mismo camping

Negratín Reservoir may be watersports-central but it’s also a spectacular must-see, surrounded as it is by arid mountains layered with coloured rock strata and nicknamed the “badlands”. These landscapes are unique in southern Spain. The hot springs at Baños de Zujar (25 minutes’ drive) have been in use since ancient Roman times: sink into the waters, rub mud into your skin and get ready for some serious floating rest and relaxation. To time travel further back into history, head for Gorafe Megalithic Park (45 minutes), an archaeological site with more than 240 dolmens, 11 necropolises and several settlements from the Bronze Age to its name. Coming closer to home base, the local village of Freila (five minutes) is the smallest in the Altiplano region, and the place to see properly old, traditional Andalusia among its whitewashed cottages, cave houses and late-medieval Moorish fortress. Climb up to the Plaza de los Tambores for views over rooftops to olive groves and red-ochre coloured peaks, then head back into the village to share tapas treats in pavement cafés. The forests, rivers and mountains of the Sierra de Cazorla (40 minutes) are also close at hand.
