Liking the sound of a glampsite tucked away in native pine forest? A glampsite that gives you a peaceful base for exploring Andalucia, and yet is close to a sandy beach? Step forward Camping Conil, 10 minutes’ drive from lively Playa de la Fontanilla beach and the pretty ‘white town’ of Conil de la Frontera. Yes, family-friendly Camping Conil provides a touch of luxury in stylish accommodation – each unit with its own private seating area under the shade of trees. You can pretty much park your car, drop off your luggage and start your holiday straight away. But where to head first? Perhaps the swimming pool for a refreshing dip – and if that’s not enough to keep the kids occupied, join daily organised activities run by the in-house entertainment team. If you’re still looking for more action, find the sports courts to play padel, or hire a bike from reception to explore the Andalucian countryside. Staff there can also arrange all sorts of other sporty stuff like surfing lessons and pony trekking. Left anything vital behind at home? Chances are you’ll find it in the well-stocked on-site supermarket. No need to stir from the glampsite to eat, either. There’s service from breakfast to late-night supper at the welcoming restaurant with a terrace overlooking the pool.

喜欢: Love this campsite, staff are super friendly and so helpful, it’s on the outskirts of Conil so you really need a car to get around. It was very quiet on this visit which suited us fine!

不喜欢: Timed showers which run for max 8-10 seconds before needing to be pressed again. Understand the concept of saving water but timing is very very short!!

喜欢: It was very quiet as there were so few people on site being out of season. Good modern and clean shower and toilet block. Flat pitch. Good laundry facility. Lovely pool area. Bus into Cadiz 1km walk away.

不喜欢: Minor point - no screw connection on taps to fit a hose. Very little information provided at reception.

不喜欢: Dog in ladies wash facilities including shower! Noisy children late at night Music late at night Tight access space to manoeuvre motorhome (although staff did open side gate in fence to help)

喜欢: Site was lovely, pool area very pleasant, bathrooms very new modern and clean.

不喜欢: Showers had a 10 second running time then had to repress a stiff button for another 10 seconds and so on, water pressure very low.

喜欢: The pool was nice and the facilities great - the toilet and showers very clean and the arrival greeting team were amazing they couldn’t help enough The location of the place is amazing the beach is stunning and very busy on an evening

不喜欢: The attitude of the bar man was not pleasant almost letchy ! Pizza very expensive also.

喜欢: The pool was s decent size and so were the pitches. There is a supermarket and a bar/restaurant onsite with indoor and outdoor seating and table service. I was surprised that they provide pool entertainment including acqua-fit. It’s definitely a campsite for families as there was children’s entertainment in the evening too. The reception is manned long hours for check-in and there’s a 24hr hotline. As the pitches are dirt based and the carpark is separate, they have a little buggy to transport people and their luggage to their pitch.

不喜欢: Nowhere to put your toiletries or change of clothes in the shower cubicles. It is fairly isolated from the nearest town and you need a car to get there. It was really windy when we arrived and very hot but we had to queue outside the reception as there’s no shelter or anywhere to sit whilst you’re waiting. They need to make the reception bigger or provide a separate shelter outside.

Should you feel the need to move from your little patch of pine-scented forest, Conil de la Frontera (10 minutes’ drive) is an Andalucian ‘white town’, with winding streets leading to the squat Torre de Guzmán – once part of the defence fortifications – and the sparkling-white, 15th-century Church of Santa Catalina. Learn about local tuna-fishing traditions at La Chanca – a former fish-processing factory and now an interactive museum – and then head for the beach at Cala Encendida cove (15 minutes) or the sandy expanse at Playa Fuente del Gallo (10 minutes). Linger in the evening to join the nightly parade from tapas bar to tapas bar along the seafront. Venture further afield to spectacular Cádiz (35 minutes) to tour the Teatro Romano, Castillo de Santa Catalina and Catedral de Cádiz (climb the Poniente Tower for views out over the city to the sea). When all the culture has been attended to, head for La Viña for dinner in the lively Plaza de Santa María Square, or have a potter around shops and bars in the labyrinthine Barrio del Pópulo (Old Town).
