This is a land of castles and museums, wineries and breweries, and spectacular cycling and hiking paths. The Kupa is a popular pick for summer wild swimming too: take your togs to the waters around Ozalj, Vukova Gorica and Donje Prilišće for scenic spots, or around the waterfalls of Lipa, Grdunac and Jarčem polje. It's four kilometres from the resort to the Old Town and old buildings of Metlika, on the left bank of the Kolpa on the Croatian border. You should also have a heady climb above the town up to Metlika Castle, originally built in the 15th century and now a local museum and home of the Kambič Gallery with paintings by Slovene artists. About five kilometres away is the moated setting of Gradac Castle, one of Slovenia's national cultural heritage landmarks.
