It’s almost impossible to resist the lure of Efteling (five minutes’ drive), with its Fairytale Forest and carousels for toddlers, 4D film adventures, daredevil coasters, water rides and monorail – there’s more than enough to occupy the whole family for the day. If you’d rather be out among all things natural, hire bikes on-site to explore the vast, ever-shifting sand dunes in National Park de Loonse en Drunense Duinen (five minutes cycling), follow the nature trails to Natuurgebied Huis ter heide (20 minutes) nature reserve or cycle the easy, level De Moer bike trail (15 minutes). Kids still not worn out? Head off to Duinoord (20 minutes) for family challenges on the treetop rope courses and quad bikes. Children at the kids’ club? Nip off to Tilburg (20 minutes) to browse the bookshops and interior-design stores, discover the surreal, art-themed walk-through at Doloris Meta Maze and tour the city brewery before putting your feet up for a well-deserved beer in a canal-side café.
