Right by the Vecht river, in a cycling haven and with canoes, bikes, electric bikes and fishing kit all available on site... what a convenient and comfy base is sorted at the prettily placed site of Resort de Arendshorst.
Based in the peaceful green countryside of the Overijssel Vechtdal, Resort de Arendshorst is 10 minutes' drive from the East Netherlands and Overijssel province city of Ommen. The site's setting (by the river, next to the local bike path and in a wildlife haven) makes it an excellent base for canoeing, cycling and fishing as well as hiking around the paths of the Vechtdal; maps and guides for exploring are at reception.
Resort de Arendshorst is well set up for kids too, with a petting zoo where they can meet and greet animals, a play area with bouncy castle, and an outdoor pool for toddlers and small children. The river also has a beach for sandcastle times for small sorts, as well as boating and swimming jetties for the use of more sizeable guests.
For grownup concerns, there's over a kilometre of private riverbank to fish from, to land bream, orfe, roach, perch, pike and carp; Dutch fishing licences, bait and fishing kit are all available to pick up on site. Also at your convenient and comfy disposal is a licensed restaurant with a snack bar, and a shop with freshly baked bread every morning.

The Overijssels Vechtdal is a peaceful part of the Netherlands mightily acclaimed for its countryside, farmland, heath and forest landscapes as well as its range of outdoor activities. Walking, cycling, canoeing and boating are all nearby.
Biking and hiking trails run for hundreds of kilometres through the Vechtdal: ask at the resort reception for maps and guides, and to hire tour bikes, mountain bikes and electric bikes.
Take yourself too to province capital Ommen for a city and shopping day or to wander the estates of Vilsteren and Eerde castles. If you're up for a longer wander, access the Pieterpad long-distance trail from town to hike part of its 498-kilometre meander from Pieterburen to the Mount Saint Peter outside Maastricht.
More urban day trips? Have days in Zwolle (25 minutes' drive), Deventer (45 minutes) and Giethoorn, also 45 minutes away. Amsterdam is within two hours.
