For attractions with an atypical twist, head for Het Veenmuseum, with a focus on the natural phenomenon of peat bogs, or the Dijkman Klompen Atelier, which delves into how clogs are made (both also 20 minutes). Kids got not one jot of interest in cobbling? Hold their attention with a trip to the indoor swimming pool at Zwembad De Kolk Wierden (15 minutes) or slap on the SPF if the sun's beaming down and get to the open-air Aqua Mexicana waterpark (30 minutes). And if you've no kids and are aiming for a decidedly adult-focused day out? Tours of the Grolsch brewery are also half an hour's drive from the site.
