Prep for a splendidly scenic and serenely peaceful time at Umbria's Camping Village Cerquestra: its lakeside location in the Lake Trasimeno Natural Park lends itself to spectacular sunsets over the water (see pics), and is in prime setting for waterside ambles, pedals and nature treks. Village Cerquestra is on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, the biggest lake in central Italy, and surrounded by oak trees and olive groves near the 14th-century fortified lakeside village of Monte del Lago. Plenty of activities are available on and around the lake, and you can also take a boat to the islands of Maggiore and Polvese, sample local wines in the vineyards or take day trips to historic towns such as Perugia and Assisi. For days on site, there's an excellently-sized pool and a shaded sun lounger area in sublime setting (again, see pics); a comfy common room with TV, and activities and entertainment such as aqua gym classes, kids' discos and live music in high season. Two bars are on hand to keep you sorted with tipples; for vittles, there's a restaurant-pizzeria and a mini market selling local produce and fresh bread.

喜欢: très belle vue, belle place pour tente, sanitaires propres, spacieux, laverie disponible (et pratique quand on a des enfants), accès directement sur le lac en bas du camping, bon accueil.

喜欢: Der Platz war wunderbar gelegen mit Blick auf den See. Toller Ausgangspunkt für Spaziergänge. Wir hatten einen traumhaften Sonnenuntergang. Sanitäre Anlagen waren sauber. Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich. Alles da, was man braucht.

Fishing, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing and waterside walking and cycling paths are all easy to access on and around Lake Trasimeno, the fourth biggest lake in Italy. The lake's also known for its islands – Isola Polvese and Isola Maggiore – which can be reached via boat trips from San Feliciano four kilometres away. You could also have days out at Passignano sul Trasimeno, Castiglione del Lago and Panicarola, or make for city days at Perugia and Assisi, 26 and 47 kilometres away. For amusingly tasty days, the Casa del Cioccolato chocolate museum is within 25 kilometres of the site; for days of plonk, cellar tours and tastings can be had among the wine trails and vineyards of the Umbrian hills.
