Climb to Elba’s highest point at the peak of Monte Capanne, an hour from the site, for spectacular views over the island and to the Tuscan coast in one direction and to the French island of Corsica in the other. To see it from ground level, rent a mountain bike and have it delivered directly to Sole e Mare so you can be in the saddle from the moment you hit the road. Take to the seas, and explore the coast in a rented boat from nearby Bagnaia, 10 minutes from the site, or join a mini cruise around Elba if you’d prefer to hand control to someone else. If you'd rather be drawn into the rich history of the island, take a trip to the ruined fort at the Castle of Volterraio or learn about the Elba's background in mining at the Museo dei Minerali, both within 20 minutes. And then? Re-emerge in the present with a stroll through the botanical gardens at L’Orto dei Semplici, a 15-minute drive from Sole e Mare, and unwind at the thermal spa at San Giovanni, 25 minutes away.
