There are plenty of walks around the land to be had in the immediate surroundings: some of the best walking trails in the area depart directly from the site, going past an ancient casemate fortress and the necropolis of Mount Finocchito. Your hosts also organise local expert-led nature walks and mountain biking tours if you fancy embarking on an expedition. The site is half an hour's scenic drive from Noto, one of the eight south-eastern Sicilian towns that make up the UNESCO-listed Val di Noto, the other seven being Modica, Ragusa, Scicli – all within very easy reach by car – and Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania and Palazzolo, a little further afield. A couple more historic hotspots worth a mention, if you're historically inclined, include the Roman villas of Tellaro and Casale. Other places within an hour's drive include the beaches of Sicily's south-eastern coast, and the Vendicari and Cavagrande nature reserves, which are ideal for long walks through nature, wildlife spotting and birdwatching.
