Right by a beach with direct access to the sands sounds just spiffing to us for a sunny Italian hol – and how fortuitous to be only 15 kilometres from the Baroque city of Lecce too.
This is the scene at Torre Rinalda Beach Camping & Resort in Puglia, a site of around 37 acres about 20 minutes' drive from Lecce and about 50 kilometres away from both Otranto and Gallipoli. The team say it's a foodie's paradise here too: the restaurant-pizzeria on site has an a la carte menu specialising in Salentino-style cuisine alongside traditional Italian dishes. (You're rather likely to like the sound of the beach bar with takeaway too.)
You'll also like the two pools at Torre Rinalda Beach Camping & Resort too – one for sprogs and one for grownups – and the other extensive facilities including a playground, a football pitch, two tennis courts and a sports court.
During the summer season, entertainment, a kids' club, sports and tournaments are organised by Torre Rinalda's multilingual team.

The Baroque city of Lecce 15km from Torre Rinalda Beach Camping & Resort has heaps to see, such as the Basilica di Santa Croce, the Messapicha-Roman tombs, Sant'Oronzo Square and the Roman amphitheatre.
Otranto, 50km away, is also worth a day trip for the Aragonian walls, another cathedral, the Castello Aragonese and the old streets of the Old Town.
Also 50km away is Gallipoli, a small fishing port that's now a big tourist pull – once you see its setting you'll see why – and well worth the trip to see its Angevine-Aragonese Castle, medieval city walls, Baroque cathedral of Sant'Agata and its harbour.
If you prefer to get active in Italy, windsurfing and diving are both available locally.
