There’s lots of splendid countryside to explore in this area, so come along prepared to walk or cycle along local paths – or bring your fishing equipment for a day trying to hook carp from the water at Lago Caselle (three minutes' drive). A stroll through the gardens at 19th-century Parco delle Bertone (10 minutes) is also a lovely option, with an attractive lake and a white stork reintroduction centre to visit. For a nose around some more fabulous residences, plan trips to places like Villa Moschini and Villa Giraffa (both five minutes) – the latter is noted for its unusual statue of a giraffe. Castle of Cerlongo (five minutes) is another place worth checking out, and there are lots of interesting buildings in Mantua (25 minutes), including the Ducale Palace and Castello di San Giorgio. The shores of Lake Garda have several fantastic historic attractions to visit as well – Sirmione (35 minutes), with a long spit stretching out into the lake, is a fabulous place to find some of these. While you're up at the lake, you may like to take the kids to visit Movieland Studios and Gardaland Resort (both 40 minutes) or have a dip from one of the lake beaches.
