Budding archaeologists and art historians, this site has your name written all over it: Agricamper Villa Julia Pompei sits on the edge of the ancient city of Pompeii – the entrance to the Archaeological Park can be reached within a five-minute drive. If you play your cards right and make your move immediately after an early breakfast, you might well be the first person in when the gate opens. But the proximity to this important artistic and archaeological site is only one of the reasons to commend this peaceful site – the other major one being its location at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Being greeted by views of the volcano first thing in the morning is a pretty special feeling. Spacious grass and gravel pitches occupy a large garden surrounded by citrus groves, and the site comes with a number of family-friendly amenities, including a parent-and-baby washroom, a barbecue station and shaded dining areas, plus a pétanque court (they call it ‘bocce’ here) and a TV room. A toilet block with facilities for disabled guests, showers and a washing-up area complete the picture. Dogs are welcome here, and the site owners will be happy to pick you up from the train station of Villa Regina, which links to Naples to the north (half an hour by railway) and Sorrento to the south (40 minutes). There are several supermarkets within a 10-minute drive… but why cook your own food when you’re in one of the most gastronomically interesting regions of Italy? The modern town of Pompei (10 minutes’ drive) has plenty of pizzerias and restaurants serving Neapolitan specialities.

喜欢: The welcome from the owner and the helpfulness of all the site staff. The way the site is constantly tended to and watered. The many dining areas on hardstanding and under umbrellas dotted around. The view of Vesuvius. The proximity to Pompeii. The provision of water and electric on nearly every pitch. The cleanliness of the shower/ wc/ washing up block. The provision of BBQ points to use. The lack of ant and mosquito issues. Railway station 20 minutes walk, serves the Naples to Sorrento area. Free and good WiFi connection.

喜欢: Loved the site, nice size pitches, great location and very clean. View of Mount Vesuvius from the campsite is spectacular.

不喜欢: No dislikes but a pool would be an added bonus.

喜欢: Der Campingplatz ist wirklich toll mit einem traumhaften Blick auf den Vesuv.

不喜欢: Die wc und duschanlage ist zwar schon ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen aber immer sehr sauber

喜欢: Everything was amazing. The pitches have everything you need such as water, electricity and disposable waste. The owner help us arrange the taxi pick up/ drop off to eat in a local restaurant. The food was amazing and the services was outstanding. We recommend this please 100%. Amelia the taxi service we used was amazing.

喜欢: When entering campsite we thought wow. Pitch sizes were good and well maintained, level. The shower and toilet facilities are basic but adequate and kept clean. And they are unisex. The owner and staff were very obliging giving us options as where we could pitch. we had a problem with our battery and the owner went out of his way to help us and offered to get it delivered if needed. Thank you for that. This site is well worth a visit but be prepared, it can be tricky with a car and caravan getting to it as the roads are very narrow. The local traffic comes at you from all directions. There is a view of Vesuvius nice by day and by night especially as the sun sets. We would definitely stay here again and would most definitely recommend to our friends.

不喜欢: Got a problem with ants but soon sorted out with ant powder. Main dislike was leaving such a lovely place and would love to have stayed longer.

喜欢: Super Ausgangspunkt auch ohne Auto, der Bahnhof ist fußläufig gut erreichbar, Pascal und sein Team waren immer freundlich und sehr hilfsbereit.

不喜欢: Die auf dem Platz befi Deiche Beleuchtung könnte etwas früher ausgehen.

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is known for the colourful frescoes of the Villa dei Misteri, the well-preserved mosaics of the House of the Faun and assorted temples. The vast site, which was buried by lava and burning ash spewing out of Vesuvius in 79 AD, also includes the Antiquarium Museum, displaying artefacts unearthed at the site. Built in the late 19th century, the vast Santuario della Beata Vergine Maria del Santo Rosario di Pompei (five minutes’ drive) can hold more than 2,000 people in its richly decorated interior dominated by a gilded organ. Exhibits in the Diocesan Museum include votive offerings. If you fancy a hike (or if you want to see up close what led to the destruction of Pompeii), Vesuvio National Park (25 minutes) has a network of trails, including one crossing the ominously named Valley of Hell. Keep your eyes peeled for foxes and bats, plus peregrine falcons and marsh harriers.
