Budding archaeologists and art historians, this site has your name written all over it: Agricamper Villa Julia Pompei sits on the edge of the ancient city of Pompeii – the entrance to the Archaeological Park can be reached within a five-minute drive. If you play your cards right and make your move immediately after an early breakfast, you might well be the first person in when the gate opens. But the proximity to this important artistic and archaeological site is only one of the reasons to commend this peaceful site – the other major one being its location at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Being greeted by views of the volcano first thing in the morning is a pretty special feeling. Spacious grass and gravel pitches occupy a large garden surrounded by citrus groves, and the site comes with a number of family-friendly amenities, including a parent-and-baby washroom, a barbecue station and shaded dining areas, plus a pétanque court (they call it ‘bocce’ here) and a TV room. A toilet block with facilities for disabled guests, showers and a washing-up area complete the picture. Dogs are welcome here, and the site owners will be happy to pick you up from the train station of Villa Regina, which links to Naples to the north (half an hour by railway) and Sorrento to the south (40 minutes). There are several supermarkets within a 10-minute drive… but why cook your own food when you’re in one of the most gastronomically interesting regions of Italy? The modern town of Pompei (10 minutes’ drive) has plenty of pizzerias and restaurants serving Neapolitan specialities.

喜欢: This place is as perfect as you can get! Huge campground, big pitches, good WiFi, very clean, friendly and accommodating host, cheap continental breakfast with great coffee every morning. Nice showers, toilets, soap, toilet tissue provided. Wake up in the morning at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. NOTE: This campsite is NOT the same as Villa Giuliana which is closer to town. We went there by mistake and it was awful.

不喜欢: Occasional noise at night from neighboring dog rescue.

喜欢: De zeer vriendelijke gastheer die heel veel uitleg gaf over alle mogelijke bezienswaardigheden in de buurt, prachtig zicht op de Vesuvius.

不喜欢: Ik zou eventueel aanraden om wat grind te leggen op de camperplaaatsen, het vulkanische zand maakte alles zwart. Maar dat betekende niet zoveel in vergelijking met het uitzonderlijke zicht!

喜欢: Set amongst what looks like an old citrus grove. The smells and fruits on the trees are brilliant. Very clean and tidy site, tables under canopies provided for everyone to use. The view of Mount Vesuvius from the van was awesome every morning. Easy 15 minute walk to a well served train station on the main Naples to Sorento line. Boat from Sorento to Capri is a good day out. We also walked to Pompei in 40 minutes. Easy walk.

不喜欢: Only one thing. Lack of toilet seats.

喜欢: Super Lage mit Blick auf den Vesuv. Schöne grüne Stellplätze, Nähe Zugstation mit Verbindung nach Neapel etc. Für nur 5€ bekommt man morgens ein tolles Frühstück mit leckerem Kaffee.

不喜欢: Toiletten sind optisch sauber, Putzleute reinigen aber mit dem Mopp die Toilette von innen und mit demselben Wasser die restlichen Einrichtungen.

不喜欢: Wir haben Online reserviert 4,50 Euro Anzahlung über Paypal, wurde aber dann bei der Gesamt-Rechnung nicht verrechnet. WLAN haben wir nicht gefunden

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii is known for the colourful frescoes of the Villa dei Misteri, the well-preserved mosaics of the House of the Faun and assorted temples. The vast site, which was buried by lava and burning ash spewing out of Vesuvius in 79 AD, also includes the Antiquarium Museum, displaying artefacts unearthed at the site. Built in the late 19th century, the vast Santuario della Beata Vergine Maria del Santo Rosario di Pompei (five minutes’ drive) can hold more than 2,000 people in its richly decorated interior dominated by a gilded organ. Exhibits in the Diocesan Museum include votive offerings. If you fancy a hike (or if you want to see up close what led to the destruction of Pompeii), Vesuvio National Park (25 minutes) has a network of trails, including one crossing the ominously named Valley of Hell. Keep your eyes peeled for foxes and bats, plus peregrine falcons and marsh harriers.
