Heading for the Gorges du Verdon, kids in tow? Don’t make any decisions until you’ve checked out Camping Les Restanques, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from lakeside Bauduen in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Set under a carapace of white oak trees on a private 20-hectare estate, it has typically Provençal views over sun-drenched forested hills and olive groves. Live on site is predictably relaxed as befits a stay in Provence too. For a taste of the region, you can buy Les Restanques-produced olive oil and free-range eggs from reception. No need to worry about catering either, as you can all start your morning with coffee and pastries at the bar, and fill up on ice creams during the course of the day. Come evening, tuck into artisan pizzas in the terrace restaurant – it’s been in the family since 1984 – and perhaps enjoy a chilled rosé on the scenic terrace. Alternatively, if you can rouse yourselves from your chilled state, there’s a communal barbecue for days when you fancy an alfresco feast. If the kids get restless, you have pétanque or table tennis to hand, and there’s also a playground for the youngest guests. Better still, there are hiking and cycling trails that head into the Verdon Regional Natural Park directly from the pitches, and swimming or kayaking on Lac de Sainte-Croix is only 10 minutes away by car too.

喜欢 Everything! Beautiful scenery, lovely site and great facilities. Friendly and welcoming, tradition family run. Restaurant excellent and reasonable prices, we had amazing pizza! Pitch spacious with beautiful views. We loved it!

喜欢 J'ai aimé l'emplacement de ce camping situé en retrait des sites d'affluence, l'accueil à été très chaleureux et nous a proposé le choix de 6 emplacements disponibles, tous très spacieux et très bien adapté, équipé de prise de courant, il m'a aussi été prêtée une prise adaptateur CEE17, d'accès à l'eau en bordure... Les sanitaires sont très nombreux et très propres.. Le restaurant vous propose une carte avec peu de choix pour garantir la fraîcheur et la qualité des plats, pizzas, grillades, crêpes salées et sucrés... Cependant pour moi, les prix de certains produits sont un peu cher pour un camping...

不喜欢 Je n'ai pas du tout aimé l'emplacement de l'aire de jeux pour enfants en plein milieu des emplacements, car très très bruyant et la Direction ne sensibilise visiblement pas les voyageurs au respect du calme, heureusement passé pour une seule nuitée étape en week-end...

The hardcore among you will probably head straight for whitewater-rafting adventures down limestone canyons on the fast-flowing Verdon River (50 minutes’ drive). There are gentler options for younger families however, including canoeing down calmer sections of the river, or boating from the watersports centre on Lac de Sainte-Croix (both 20 minutes). Those of you who’d rather stay dry can go hacking in the Provençal hills on horseback from Artignosc-sur-Verdon (half an hour). Alternatively, get out into the natural park with binoculars and try to spot vultures, chamois or ibex. When you’re up for more of a challenge, rent bikes from the local cycle centre (five minutes) and pedal adrenaline-inducing routes up into the mountains. If holidaying in Provence has worked its magic on you, all the above will sound like too much hard work. More sedate pursuits could see you learn about the region’s ‘black gold’ truffles at the Maison de la Truffe (15 minutes); you can also sample and buy local produce such as cured ham, lavender-infused honey and apricot jam at the Sunday market in Bauduen (20 minutes).
